Additional Persecution News from China – May 21, 2026 (12 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 12 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 28 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Datong City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Chen Zhongli Faces Trial

Ms. Chen Zhongli was scheduled to appear at the Yungang District Court on May 28, 2026.

2. [Jintang County, Sichuan Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Three practitioners were sentenced to prison in May 2026. Ms. Fan Mingzhen was sentenced to two years, Ms. Wang Huayu to one year and six months, and Zeng Changmo to two years with three years’ probation.

3. [Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province] Mr. Zhu Zuoxin on Hunger Strike in Prison for Over Nine Months

Mr. Zhu Zuoxin is serving a five-year term at the Zhejiang Province Fourth Prison. He went on a hunger strike for more than nine months. The prison authorities are allowing him to do the Falun Gong exercises until his release in 2027.

4. [Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province] Three Practitioners Detained

Ms. Qiao Shuyun, Ms. Lan Juxiang, and Ms. Wei Shuju were reported to the police for talking to some students about Falun Gong on April 25, 2026. Pressured by the police, their families sent them to the Linglong Town Police Station on May 2. They were detained for 15 days and have been released.

5. [Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region] Eleven Practitioners Face Prosecution

Eleven practitioners were arrested on November 2, 2025. The Xixia District Procuratorate returned their case to the police in December 2025, and the police re-submitted the case on May 7, 2026. The prosecutor tried to force the practitioners to dismiss their lawyers and use court-appointed lawyers instead, who would automatically enter guilty pleas for them.

The 11 practitioners are Xie Yiqiang, Li Jinhua, Li Shilin, Zhu Lin, Mao Minwu, Li Tianyuan, Liang Yuhua, Li Mengying, Ding Qian, Shen Dongmei, and Zhao Lin.

They are being held at the Yinchuan City Detention Center and have been subjected to various degrees of physical and mental abuse. Li Jinhua has blood in her urine and stool. Liang Yuhua suffers from urinary incontinence, mental confusion, and significant memory loss. Shen Dongmei has difficulty walking and needs assistance from two people. Ding Qian’s injuries to his lower back and coccyx, sustained during his arrest, have not yet healed.

6. [Hailun City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Tong Guoqin Arrested

Ms. Tong Guoqin was arrested at work on April 23, 2025, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated her personal belongings. She was taken to Suihua City for detention that evening.

7. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Nie Xiaomei Faces Trial

Ms. Nie Xiaomei, 54, is facing trial by the Penglai District Court.

8. [Qingzhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Chen Shuxiang Detained

Ms. Chen Shuxiang, 68, was arrested by Dongxia Town Police Station officers on April 10, 2026. She was detained for five days.

9. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Fang Caixia Loses Appeals Against Wrongful Sentence

The Dalian City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold Ms. Fang Caixia’s 3.5-year prison sentence on May 18, 2026. Her son, Mr. Wu Qi, filed a motion to reconsider her case with the intermediate court.

10. [Tianjin] Mr. Wang Guijun Harassed

Mr. Wang Guijun was harassed by officers from the Dagu Police Station over the phone on May 14 and 15, 2026, and ordered to go to the police station. The police also attempted to pressure his relatives to force him to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong.

11. [Yanji City, Jilin Province] Ms. Li Lanshu Sentenced to Prison; Ms. Cui Fenghua Missing

Ms. Li Lanshu, 69, of the Korean ethnic minority, was arrested prior to February 6, 2026. She was sentenced to three and a half years, and has been admitted to prison.

Ms. Cui Fenghua, 66, also of the Korean ethnic minority, from Longjing City, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, went missing around February 11, 2026.

12. [Changle County, Shandong Province] Ms. Qin Guofeng Released on Bail

Ms. Qin Guofeng was arrested at the entrance of her residential complex on January 4, 2026. Five officers were involved in the arrest. They twisted her arms behind her back, handcuffed her, and seized her backpack and keys. They ransacked her home and confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Gong books, over 6,000 yuan in cash, her cell phone, a laptop, a printer used for her family business, two desktop computers used by her child, as well as other personal items.

Ms. Qin was taken to the Chengxi Police Station for interrogation. The police kept her handcuffed for two days. They said they arrested her because she was recorded by surveillance cameras putting up Falun Gong stickers.

Ms. Qin was taken to the Weifang City Detention Center on January 6, and released on bail a week later. She was ordered to check in with the police every day and go to the police station once a month. The police also threatened to arrest her family members if Ms. Qin was seen going out for any Falun Gong-related activities again.
