(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old woman recently developed some mental conditions while serving an eight-year term for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Her family suspects that this is the second time she has been subjected to involuntary drug administration.
Ms. Wang Ruiling, of Tangshan City, Hebei Province, was arrested at home around 3 a.m. on July 6, 2019, and later sentenced to eight years. She was admitted to Hebei Province Women’s Prison on April 15, 2021.
Ms. Wang was first held at the 14th division (the admission division) and later the 13th Division. Common torture methods used on practitioners included sitting on small stools from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, standing for long periods of time, beatings, and being forced to watch videos or read books slandering Falun Gong.
Because Ms. Wang refused to renounce Falun Gong, she was subjected to frequent beatings. The inmates once grabbed her hair and hit her against the wall. They also poured cold water over her. When she refused to take an unknown medication as ordered, the guards pulled out several of her teeth and force-fed her the drug.
Ms. Wang became mentally unstable as a result of the abuse. She was irritable and had intermittent bouts of screaming. She sat on the windowsill for hours in the middle of the night and wept. When she was quiet, she appeared dazed and confused.
Additionally, Ms. Wang lost vision in her left eye and also had trouble with her right eye. The prison refused to accept responsibility for her eye condition, claiming that it was caused by cataracts. They ordered her family to pay 5,000 yuan for her surgery. She regained her eyesight after the surgery.
Ms. Wang was transferred to the 17th Division around June 2025. Another 30-40 Falun Gong practitioners were also held there. Hao Yingjie, the head of the 17th Division, oversees the brainwashing of the practitioners herself, including forcing the practitioners to watch propaganda videos slandering Falun Gong and write thought reports every day.
In recent months, Ms. Wang has exhibited speech and memory disorders, as well as symptoms of depression. Her family suspects that she might have been subjected to involuntary drug administration again.
Additional Torture Cases in the Prison
The Hebei Province Women’s Prison is notorious for torturing Falun Gong practitioners. Below are a few more examples.
Ms. Li Guoai, in her 30s, of Qinhuangdao City, was arrested in June 2017 and sentenced to ten years. She had a mental breakdown in January 2025 after repeated torture.
Ms. Liu Shunzhi, 72, of Shijiazhuang City, was sentenced to eight years in July 2023. While held at the 14th Division, she was forced to sit on a small stool or stand for long hours on end every day. She fainted due to the torture and was taken to the hospital for resuscitation. She is currently held at the 17th Division.
Ms. Sun Lixin, in her 40s, of Qinhuangdao City, suffered a stroke due to torture. She has difficulty walking.
