(Minghui.org) A native of Jilin City, Jilin Province, who now resides in Lingshui County, Hainan Province, was arrested on January 19, 2026, for his faith in Falun Gong.

Mr. Liu Yuhe, 55, was denied admission to the local detention center due to health reasons. He was released on bail after posting a 1,000-yuan bond. A police officer surnamed Song called him in late March 2026 and ordered him to report to the Lingshui County Police Department on April 6. Song added that they had submitted his case to the local procuratorate.

Since the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Mr. Liu has been repeatedly targeted for upholding his faith. While still living in Jilin Province, he was given a labor camp term in 2005 and sentenced to eight years in 2007. He endured brutal torture in custody and barely survived.

Mother’s Passing

A group of police officers broke into Mr. Liu’s home in November 2003 and took him to the Sunjiatun Police Station. Officer Dong Jianjun hit him in the left eye, causing him to faint immediately. After he regained consciousness, they took him to the Huadian City Police Department. His left eye was severely swollen and bloodshot. He also had a heart attack. Fearing he might die at the police department, the officers took him to the hospital.

While Mr. Liu was receiving treatment, the police went to his home and demanded that his mother give them 3,000 yuan to cover the medical costs. Hearing about Mr. Liu’s heart attack was a blow to the elderly woman. She had a heart attack and died shortly after.

After three days of inpatient care, Mr. Liu was taken to the Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp. Due to his heart condition, the guards refused to admit him. He was released and devastated to learn of his mother’s passing.

Tortured in the Labor Camp

Mr. Liu was arrested again in June 2005. The police interrogated him and threatened to torture him. They said to him, “If we torture you to death, we’ll throw your body out of the window and write a report saying you had jumped to your death.”

The police restrained Mr. Liu in a metal chair and handcuffed him behind his back (see the image below). They also stuffed his mouth with a rag and then force-fed him hot chili water. He almost suffocated.

After torturing him for a few hours, they took him to a detention center. He was transferred to the Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp after a few days to serve an unknown term. The guards forced him to sit on a small bench for long hours without moving. They also beat him, hung him up by his wrists, and forced him to work for long hours. He had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital for resuscitation. Despite the doctor’s recommendation that he receive inpatient care, the guards insisted on taking him back to the labor camp. They restrained him to a bed and continued to beat him. He was unable to walk for the rest of his term.

Sentenced to Eight Years

Mr. Liu was arrested again on February 12, 2007. He was restrained in a metal chair at the police station overnight and then taken to the Jilin City Detention Center the next day.

The Chuanying District Court sentenced Mr. Liu to eight years on July 10, 2007. He was admitted to the Jilin Province Prison on November 13 that year. The guards stretched his limbs and tied him in a spread eagle position. His hands were injured and still feel numb today.

The guards also denied Mr. Liu restroom use and forced him to defecate in his pants, while he was still tied to the bed. When he complained to the guards, they tortured him even more severely.

Mr. Liu was put in solitary confinement in April 2009. He went on a hunger strike to protest and was force-fed. He was finally released in 2015 and later moved to Hainan Province to do odd jobs.
