(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported on the wrongful conviction of six Hebei Province residents by a court in neighboring Shandong Province. This report provides additional information about one of the practitioners, Ms. Cheng Guijun, who was admitted to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison on February 5, 2026, to serve a three-year term that is set to end in June 2027.

Prior to her latest prison sentence, Ms. Cheng was arrested multiple times and served two forced labor terms totaling three years.

Ms. Cheng Guijun

Earliest Arrests

Ms. Cheng, of Dongguang County, Hebei Province, took up Falun Gong in 1998 and soon recovered from frequent colds, chronic diarrhea, leg pain, back pain, and other ailments. After the communist regime started to persecute Falun Gong in July 1999, she held firm to her faith and was repeatedly arrested.

Ms. Cheng went to Beijing on October 15, 1999, to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested and held at the appeals office overnight. Secretary Wang Xijie from the Dongguang County Police Department picked her up the next day and took her back to Hebei. He put her in the Dongguang County Detention Center, where she was beaten, subjected to sleep deprivation, and was forced to stand for prolonged periods of time and to run laps. She went on a hunger strike in protest, only to be tied up and force-fed via a tube through her nose.

Ms. Cheng’s family was forced to pay 8,000 yuan before being allowed to take her home 45 days later. She went to Beijing again on February 14, 2000, and was arrested. Officers from the Dongcheng District Police Department in Beijing seized the 200 yuan cash she had on her, and physically abused her by forcing her to stand for long hours, slapping her in the face, and striking her head with police batons.

The next day, she was taken back to Hebei and put in the Dongguang County Detention Center. Guard Li Guoying became enraged and punched and kicked her after finding a Falun Gong book on her person. She was then transferred to the Botou City Detention Center, where she was forced to do hard labor for over 17 hours a day.

Ms. Cheng was released after a total of 30 days of detention, but not before her family was forced to pay over 400 yuan.

Vice manager of Dongguang Town, Zhang Zhensheng, instructed Wang Lujun and three others to arrest Ms. Cheng in July 2000. They put her in a brainwashing center located inside a nursing home. She went on a five-day hunger strike and was released.

First Labor Camp Term (January 2001 – January 2002)

Ms. Cheng went to Beijing on January 1, 2001, and unfurled a banner reading “Falun Dafa is good” on Tiananmen Square. The police knocked her down and dragged her across the ground for over ten meters. They took her to a facility in Chongwen District of Beijing. Secretary Wang from the Dongguang County Police Department picked her up the next day and took her to the Dongguang County Detention Center, where she was forced to label matchboxes every day.

One day before dawn, guard Qiu Guozhang ordered Ms. Cheng and several other female practitioners, including Ms. Xu Shucheng, Ms. Liu Xingrong, and Ms. Xu Wenli, to stand barefoot outside in the snow for three hours, with their arms held out to their sides, parallel to the ground.

Ms. Cheng was later given one year of forced labor and transferred to the Kaiping Labor Camp on April 11, 2001. She was searched and forced to stand upon admission. The guards there also subjected her to various other forms of abuse, including long-term standing, sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, denial of restroom use, shower restrictions, and she was forbidden to talk to others.

Ms. Cheng was later moved to the Gaoyang Labor Camp in June 2001. She was strip searched upon admission. The next night, the guards summoned her to a room. They removed her shoes and socks, before shacking her feet to a ring anchored on the floor. A female guard named Liu Yamin, and a male guard surnamed Li shocked the soles and insteps of her feet, as well as her toes, with electric batons. They also punched and kicked her, and threatened to repeat the same torture the next day if she refused to renounce Falun Gong. It was past midnight when they finally dragged her back to her cell.

In early July 2001, Ms. Cheng was forced to attend a brainwashing class within the labor camp. The location was dark and damp. She was made to sit motionless on a small stool from 5 a.m. to midnight every day, watching videos slandering Falun Gong. Any slight movement would result in beatings.

One August night in 2001, Captain Wang Yajie ordered eight guards to shock Ms. Cheng on her soles, insteps, and toes with multiple electric batons simultaneously. They also slapped her in the face, and kicked and punched her until she passed out.

Ms. Cheng was moved out of the brainwashing class three months later and forced to do hard labor for long hours every day. She was released on January 1, 2002.

Second Labor Camp Term (November 2002 – November 2004)

Ms. Cheng was arrested again on November 1, 2002, with practitioners Ms. Dong Jianmin and Mr. Fan Zongxin, by officers Gong Jingwen and Guo Rui from the Dongguang County Police Department. The 11,800 yuan cash Ms. Cheng had with her was confiscated.

The three practitioners were taken to the Traffic Police Division of the Dongguang County Police Department. They were each restrained in a metal chair with their hands cuffed behind the backs of the chairs. For five straight days, they were not allowed to sleep. As soon as they closed their eyes, they were beaten.

On November 5, 2002, the police moved the practitioners to the Dongguang County Detention Center. Ms. Cheng was taken back to the Traffic Police Division 15 days later. Gong and Guo, along with four officers from the Cangzhou City Domestic Security Office including Che Li, Jia, and Wang Yixin, tortured Ms. Cheng. They again restrained her in a metal chair and subjected her to sleep deprivation. Wang used a lighter to burn her fingers, poured water onto her face, and stabbed her ribs with a key.

Five days later, Ms. Cheng was taken to the Anti-Riot Division of the Cangzhou City Domestic Security Office. The next day she was brought back to the Dongguang County Detention Center.

Ms. Cheng was given two years of forced labor in December 2002 and transferred to the Kaiping Labor Camp. She was subjected to various forms of abuse, including beatings, sleep deprivation, forced-feeding, electric shocks, and being tied up with ropes.

When she went on a hunger strike to protest, she was thrown to the ground from her bed. The guards slapped her in the face and dragged her to an office. They tied her up in a chair and did not allow her to use the restroom. She was force-fed twice a day. The feeding tube was roughly pushed and pulled in and out of her nose or mouth frequently, causing her to bleed profusely.

Ms. Cheng was released on November 1, 2004.
