(Minghui.org) A 79-year-old Yueyang City, Hunan Province resident is facing prosecution, following her 11th arrest for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Guo Danxia, a retired accountant for the Yueyang City Petroleum Company, was arrested on May 15, 2025, by more than ten officers from the Lou District Domestic Security Office in Yueyang and the Linxiang City Domestic Security Office.
The police raided Ms. Guo’s home without a search warrant and took away her Falun Gong books and the MP3 player she used for playing the Falun Gong exercises music. They claimed that a surveillance camera recorded her distributing Falun Gong informational materials in nearby Linxiang City the day before.
Due to Ms. Guo’s high blood pressure, she was not admitted when the police took her to the Yueyang City Second Detention Center in the afternoon. She was held at the Linxiang City Police Department overnight and taken to the Guangji Hospital the next day, where she has been held since.
A prosecutor from the Linxiang City Procuratorate deposed Ms. Guo at the hospital on June 10. She refused to answer any questions. The prosecutor approved her arrest soon after and accused her of distributing more than ten different Falun Gong booklets, although the police couldn’t provide the footage of her distributing such materials.
The Linxiang City Procuratorate is in the process of transferring Ms. Guo’s case to the Pingjiang County Procuratorate.
Ms. Guo’s latest arrest was preceded by a prison term of three years and two months between March 18, 2020 and May 17, 2023. Before her prison sentence, she was sent to a psychiatric hospital in June 2020 and forced to take psychiatric drugs even though she was not mentally ill. Ms. Guo began to experience shortness of breath and insomnia, and was often in a delirious state as a result of the drugs.
Those who know Ms. Guo cannot understand why such a law-abiding citizen is being persecuted again for practicing her faith. She and her late husband, Mr. Wang Xuguang, had a blended family. She helped raise his three children. After he became ill and paralyzed, his children seldom came to visit him, but Ms. Guo took meticulous care of him.
After Mr. Wang passed away, his children fought for the couple’s house and other assets. Being a Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Guo did not fight back and moved out of the house with her own son. Mr. Wang’s unmarried daughter, who had a severe illness, then moved into the house. That daughter died a few years later and her two siblings wanted to take over the house. Ms. Guo signed the home ownership transfer agreement without hesitation. Her own son has to work two jobs to make a living. With his mother in detention again, he struggles to take care of his two daughters—a fourth-grader and a first-grader.
