(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners in southern Taiwan held rallies and candlelight vigils on July 19, 2025, to protest the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) 26-year-long persecution.
Practitioners from Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Tainan City participated in events at the conference hall of Chiayi’s Taiwan Fund for Children and Families and in Tainan Park. The events marked 26 years of efforts to end the persecution in China and commemorated the practitioners who have lost their lives to the CCP’s persecution.
Taiwanese legislators, city councilors, former municipal officials, priests, and lawyers voiced support at these events. They condemned the CCP’s persecution and its transnational repression of the spiritual group, thanked Falun Gong practitioners for raising awareness, defending human rights, and awakening justice and conscience, and encouraged joint efforts to end the CCP’s crimes.

Legislator: Must Condemn the CCP’s Persecution and Transnational Repression
Chen Kuan-Ting, member of the Legislative Yuan, speaks at the rally.
Legislator Chen Kuan-Ting said at the rally, “The persecution of Falun Gong has lasted 26 years. The CCP not only persecutes Falun Gong inside China, but it is also openly involved in transnational repression. Both Taiwan and the international community must face it squarely and condemn it.
“I came to the Falun Gong practitioners’ rally today to show my support for freedom of religion and faith,” he added. “I hope all Chinese people can wake up and cast aside the brutal CCP. I further hope to stir the consciences of CCP officials so they can stop colluding and stop becoming accomplices in the persecution of Chinese people.”
Chiayi City Councilor: Defend Freedom of Belief
Chiayi city councilor Lin Wei-syuan
Chiayi city councilor Lin Wei-syuan spoke at the rally. “Human rights is a universal value,” he said. “It is also an important symbol of social civilization. With the CCP, there are no human rights or religious freedom. Furthermore, they are against human nature and humanity and use all possible means to persecute different faith groups. It is appalling.
“The spirit of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance emphasized by Falun Gong provides positive energy to the society and should be guarded well. The CCP’s suppression and persecution must be condemned.” He ended with a call to action: “Stop persecuting Falun Gong. Face human rights and Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Defend freedom of belief and freedom of speech.”
City Councilor: “I Must Come to Support Everyone”
Chiayi city councilor Wang Hao
Chiayi city councilor Wang Hao has voiced support at practitioners’ events previously. He said, “When I see such a great cultivation group like Falun Gong being brutally persecuted by the CCP, I must come out and condemn the persecution.
“In the past, the July 20 memorial was always held at Zhongzheng Park. This year, due to the damage caused by the typhoon, it was switched to this site. I still must come to support everyone,” Mr. Wang said. “I watched the film State Organs and Shen Yun Performing Arts’ performance. I deeply feel the importance of faith and the preciousness of democracy and freedom. Hopefully, we in Taiwan won’t suffer any inhumane infringement of human rights and unfair treatment for faith.”
Tainan City Councilor: “Thank You Very Much, Everyone”
Tainan city councilor Tsai Hsiao-wei
Tainan city councilor Tsai Hsiao-wei expressed admiration for Falun Gong practitioners upon seeing that they were raising awareness and defending human rights despite the rain. She said, “We all know that democracy, freedom, and justice do not come easily. Thank you very much, everyone. Let us together defend these values and ideas and let the whole world hear this voice.”
Tainan city councilor Chen Yi-jen also spoke during the rally. “I urge the CCP to stop persecuting Falun Gong and to respect the values of freedom of belief and human rights,” Chen said. “Falun Gong practitioners are not deterred by wind or rain. Their strong and persistent spirit moves me very much. If you ever need help with coordination, I will definitely do what I can to help.”
Former Director of Tainan’s Bureau of Education: “I’m Very Moved”
Cheng Pang-chen, former director of Tainan’s Bureau of Education
Cheng Pang-chen, the former director of Tainan’s Bureau of Education, has been supportive of practitioners’ events since he attended the screening of State Organs last year. He said, “People’s general impression of Falun Gong practitioners is positive, kind, and bright ... There are so many persistent practitioners in Taiwan who put their heart into it. I’m very moved and cherish it very much.
“Because resisting the persecution is a manifestation of love, the world will make a path for you ... Our suffering is not over yet, but light is in sight. We have to use the truth to awaken justice and conscience and save people quicker!”
Former Director of Tainan’s Tourism and Travel Bureau: “We Should Unite with More Countries”
Kuo Chen-hui, former director of Tainan’s Tourism and Travel Bureau
Kuo Chen-hui, the former director of Tainan’s Tourism and Travel Bureau, said, “Falun Gong practitioners quietly and consistently spread Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance in every corner of the world. I appreciate them very much for persistently protesting the persecution for a long time and allowing more people to have a deeper understanding of the CCP’s evil nature.
“The CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong has extended to other countries. We should unite with more countries to stop the persecution, eliminate the red power, and stop transnational repression. Then the world will be peaceful,” she said.
Minister: “We Should Cherish the Freedom We Have”
Minister Ji Jai-sheng of the Presbyterian Church said at the rally, “You are very free and brave. You bring confidence and encouragement to the Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted in China.
“You persistently expose the truth about the persecution to the entire world and spread the voice that yearns for freedom of faith. Freedom is a natural right. It was also not obtained with ease in this free and democratic country of Taiwan. We should also cherish the freedom we have,” he said.
Attorney: “Good Will Always Prevail Over Evil”
Attorney Tseng Chin-yuan said, “It is the truth that good will always prevail over evil. It is the case with any history, nation, and people. Falun Gong’s positive energy is so strong. We must have confidence. You and I will definitely be able to see the day the CCP collapses!”
Non-practitioner Participant: “I Admire Them!”
A young man named Alvis attended the events after a friend recommended them to him. Alvis said Falun Gong practitioners were gentle and kind. “The CCP’s persecution of faith is unreasonable. Forced organ harvesting is inhumane. I’m willing to speak up for Falun Gong in hope that they can receive the attention of the world,” he said.
Alvis praised how practitioners “use calm methods to call for a stop to the persecution, in order to help regular people and the government see what is happening. This is great,” he said.
“It’s tough on a rainy day. I admire them! I’m willing to help more people know that Falun Dafa is good and that it is not like what the CCP says. Hope more people will know about it and that practitioners receive more help from the international community,” Alvis said.
Young participants left words of support on solidarity cards at the event in Tainan.
A highlight of the rally in Tainan was that more than ten young people signed up on Facebook to personally come and experience the dignified, serene, peaceful, and positive energy field of Falun Gong. They left heartfelt words of support on hanging solidarity cards.
