Falun Gong Is Something Different, Says a Taxi Driver

(Minghui.org) Last year, my father had a medical emergency and was hospitalized. I got into a taxi to go see him. The ride to the hospital was over an hour, and I tried to figure out how to clarify the truth to the driver while sending righteous thoughts.

The driver talked nonstop. He told me that his wife had a tubal pregnancy, and the doctor didn’t find out until the fetus was seven months old. The doctor quickly transferred her to a larger hospital, and she barely escaped death. Before she was discharged, the doctor warned her not to get pregnant in the next six months, as it could be fatal. She became pregnant again in less than six months, and her father wanted her to get an abortion. His wife insisted upon keeping the baby, and they later had a baby girl. The girl was healthy and going to middle school at the time. The driver considered himself lucky and the birth of his daughter a miracle.

As we were getting close to the hospital, I didn’t want to regret not telling him the truth about Dafa, and got directly to the topic, “Yes, you are indeed a lucky man. What do you think about Falun Gong?” His facial expression changed. “Speaking of Falun Gong, it reminds me of Liu Shehong. He was once a gangster who caved to no one, not his parents or the police. Who would have thought that Falun Gong could turn him into a good person who would not fight back when beaten, and not talk back when sworn at. Just based on his change, I’d say that Falun Gong is something different.”

I remember reading about Liu Shehong on Minghui.org. He was once a fearless gangster. After he became a practitioner, he became friendly and kind, and everyone liked him. After the persecution started, he was put in Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang County for four years in 2010. He became permanently injured in 2022 during his second imprisonment.

The driver said that he used to be a gang member, too. One day, he was arrested after getting into a fight and was locked up in a forced labor camp in Shayang County. The authorities made him watch Liu around the clock. He was very excited because he heard stories of how Liu once fought a mafia boss, and so was his hero at the time.

The driver said, “I thought of Liu as a legend, and did not give him a hard time. In fact, I often protected him to the best of my ability. He talked to me about Falun Gong’s persecution every day, and how I could be a good person. I enjoyed the cultivation stories he told me. The guards later put him in solitary confinement and instigated other prisoners to torture him. He never fought back and was always cheerful. Even the guards and prisoners respected him. You have to know that no one would have dared to touch him before he practiced Falun Gong.”

I quickly responded, “You helped a Falun Dafa practitioner in prison and accumulated a lot of virtue. No wonder later your wife safely gave birth to your daughter against all odds. Falun Gong is a righteous high-level cultivation practice of the Buddha school, and treating its disciples kindly is doing a great deed.”

He seemed to have awakened to something, “Oh, that is why! My wife giving birth safely is definitely a miracle.” He felt sorry for Liu and said, “Falun Gong gave a gangster a new lease in life, which his parents and the education system could not. I am still impressed by its power.”

I asked if he had quit the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliations, and he told me that Liu had helped him do so. He asked if I knew Liu, and said that he missed him and wanted to see him again. He said, “Liu looked like a Bodhisattva,” and then rephrased his comment, “He looked like an Arhat, appearing blessed and favored.

After we arrived at the hospital, he helped me with the luggage and asked, “Do you know how Liu is right now?” I told him that Liu was arrested and imprisoned again after telling people the truth about Dafa. I told him I didn’t know where Liu was. It saddened him, and he assured me that he’d never report me to the police.

I felt emotional after the driver left. Liu’s righteous actions saved a precious life.

Summary of Liu Shehong’s Persecution

Mr. Liu Shehong was born in 1967 and lived in Daqiao Village, Xianning City, Hubei Province. He became addicted to drugs in 1993 and spent hundreds of thousands of yuan on rehab, but to no avail. He often got into fights and was imprisoned. Without a steady income to sustain his drug use, he often borrowed money or committed robbery.

His mother had him read Zhuan Falun in December 2006. Four months after he learned the practice, he quit drugs and smoking. He became healthy, morally upright, and treated others kindly.

The police arrested Liu in May 2008 after he talked to people about the truth behind the persecution. He was put in the Hewan Forced Labor Camp and viciously beaten.

He was arrested again for telling others about Falun Gong in December 2010. A judge in the Hongshan District Court sentenced him to four years in Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang County, Hubei Province.

He and his wife, Ms. Zhao Xiujuan, were arrested on September 4, 2019, in Jingzhou City. He was later given 7.5 years in Fanjiatai Prison, and his wife seven years in Wuhan Women’s Prison.

A prisoner released from Fanjiatai Prison told Liu’s family in the end of 2022 that he was heavily tortured in prison. His legs were permanently injured as a result, and he could not walk properly.
