(Minghui.org) I have an attachment that I have tried to let go, but haven’t been able to. I don’t like practitioner Liang (alias) who I have often been in contact with. I can see lots of his attachments such as showing off, seeking comfort, indulging in eating, bragging, telling lies, not cultivating speech, seeking personal interests, not accepting criticism, resentment, jealousy, hot temper, distrust, saving face and revenge.
He has been suffering from sickness karma for a long time and has not been able to break through the problem. It appears that the old forces are taking advantage of his attachments. I have pointed out his issues to him many times. He didn’t accept it, and resented me instead. I eventually realized that I should look within and let Master deal with it.
Given my mindset before, I had become unwilling to communicate with him or contact him. This feeling controlled me tightly. I knew this was not in line with the Fa. I truly tried to let go of my emotion. By studying the Fa and sending forth righteous thoughts, I could become calm. After a while, this emotion came back again. Recently Liang lost his temper with me and scolded me for not talking to him. I realized that I didn’t have compassion for him. I tried to figure out how I could let go of this attachment.
When I clarified the truth about Dafa to everyday people, I didn’t blame them no matter how they cursed at me, didn’t listen to me or behaved badly. I knew they were lost in delusion and deceived by the lies. As the morality of the society goes downwards, their behaviors are deemed normal. They were ignorant of the value of life and universe. But they came here for the purpose of salvation by the Fa. So I don’t have any complaint or resentment against them. I understand them and tolerate them. I talk to them peacefully and calmly. When they become irrational, I look within to see if I still have any attachments. But, why don’t I have the same compassion towards fellow practitioners?
The Difference between a Practitioner and an Everyday Person
If an everyday person has attachments, I will put up with him calmly. But I am not able to do so when that person is a practitioner. Then what’s the difference between them? They all came for the Fa and live in the maze. They came from the old cosmos, carrying the characteristics of selfishness of the old cosmos and human emotions and desires. They have Buddha nature and demon nature and are in the period of morality sliding downwards quickly. They are contaminated in the big dye vat of society. Chinese people are indoctrinated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s evil culture. When practitioners do things with attachments, they are the same as everyday people. When they are attached to something, they are controlled by the evil factors behind them.
But practitioners are chosen by Master. Master takes care of us. We have our own missions. The parts that we have cultivated well have been separated by the Fa. We study the Fa, do the exercises and send forth righteous thoughts. We use various means to clarify the truth and save sentient beings. The Fa cleanses us constantly and gradually shows us the truth of life and cosmos. Our attachments are reduced bit by bit. We are different from everyday people in those regards.
Why Do I Treat Practitioners and Everyday People Differently?
Practitioners also came from the old cosmos and have the selfish traits which came from the old cosmos. They also have human emotions and desires. The practitioners in China are indoctrinated by the CCP culture and have various attachments. They are in the maze. The bad spirits control them when they have attachments. They themselves (including me) might not realize it. The parts that they have completed cultivation successfully are separated by the Fa, so we can only see their attachments and their human behaviors. But I measure them with the Fa criteria. Aren’t I being biased and selfish? When practitioners have attachments, I should treat them with kindness and compassion, the way I treat everyday people.
Why Do I See Practitioners’ Attachments?
Practitioners’ Attachments Serve as Mirrors which Show Me My Own Attachments
To let go of my own attachments, first, I should know what my attachments are. Master takes care of every practitioner and knows our attachments. When we are not aware of our attachments, Master will arrange people or things to happen to serve as mirrors to reflect our attachments, so that we can realize where we fall short and get rid of our attachments. I repeatedly saw Liang’s attachments. When I really look within, I find that I have similar attachments as his.
When I have too many attachments, do I want other people to tolerate me or abandon me? Of course I want them to tolerate me. So when I see other practitioners’ attachments, shouldn’t I tolerate them? When I become upset toward Liang, I was moved by emotion. I should let go of emotion, and replace it with compassion.
Practitioner’s Behaviors Are Illusions. I Should be Patient and Help Them
I learned from the Fa that practitioners’ behaviors that are not in line with the Fa are illusions. They are controlled by the evil spirits during those times.
I mistakenly regarded Liang’s behaviors that were not in line with the Fa coming from his own nature. I resented him and hated him. I was wrong. I should recognize the illusions and help him while he faced hardships. Master arranged this for me. When I came across such situations, I should cultivate myself and respond according to the Fa principles.
Then how to help the practitioners who are in hardships and entangled with attachments?
Master said,
“So as for how you can help the person, what you can do is, first off, to help him understand things from the Fa and improve. And another thing is to have all of you send righteous thoughts together, and do more of what a Dafa disciple should do to save sentient beings. All these things can help the person.” (“Teachings Given on Lantern Festival Day, 2003”)
By studying this Fa, I realized that I should study the Fa with Liang, send forth righteous thoughts for him, and share with him calmly from the Fa perspective. However, the practitioners who are in tribulations or have strong attachments are controlled by evil spirits. They are not aware of their attachments. We should have compassion with them and form a compassionate field. We are not moved by illusions, and help them with righteous thoughts to remove the evils behind them. Master won’t give up on any practitioner. We don’t allow the evil to persecute practitioners. When we have such determined righteous thoughts, the Fa will give us the power to rectify ourselves. Then we are able to eliminate the evil. Master and the righteous Gods will help us directly.
If we cultivate well and have developed a compassionate and harmonious field, the unrighteous beings and elements will not exist in our field. When I come across anything that really disturbs me I try to keep calm and speak calmly. Bit by bit I cultivate away my attachments.
Safeguarding the Fa and Saving Sentient Beings
Falun Dafa practitioners’ behaviors represent the image of Falun Dafa. We are one body. To be responsible to the practitioners equals to be responsible to the Fa.
Conclusion
When we feel anything disturbing us, we must have something inside us that are against the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. We need to look within instead of looking outward. We need to rectify ourselves according to the Fa principles. When we have rectified ourselves, we can help other practitioners more, cooperate with them better, safeguard the Fa, and validate the Fa more solidly.
When we are bothered by other practitioners’ attachments, deluded by illusions, not enlightened from the Fa perspective or don’t cultivate ourselves diligently, the old forces will take advantages of our loopholes and create divisions among the practitioners. When practitioners have serious sickness karma symptoms, are arrested by the evil, or even lose their lives, all this will have a negative impact on our validating the Fa and saving sentient beings. These are the omissions of individual practitioners and are also omissions of the whole body. It is crucial that we pay attention to our own cultivation, are tolerant towards other practitioners and help each other.
Articles in which cultivators share their understandings typically reflect an individual's perception at a point in time based on their cultivation state, and they are offered in the spirit of enabling mutual elevation.
