Twice Jailed for a Total of 10 Years, Elderly Shandong Man Gets Another 5.5 Years for His Faith in Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) A Longkou City, Shandong Province resident was admitted to the Shandong Province Men’s Prison on June 11, 2025 to serve a 5.5-year term for talking to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of his faith, Falun Gong.

Mr. Yi Xiangyang (also known as Yin Xiangyang), around 76, was arrested on the morning of March 5, 2025 and taken to the Longkou City Detention Center at 3 p.m. The arresting officers from the Xinjia Police Station attempted to raid his home that day, but no one opened the door.

Five plainclothes officers came to Mr. Yi’s home at around 9 a.m. on March 13, 2025, with a locksmith in tow. Without knocking on the door, the police had the locksmith remove the peephole on the door and insert a long metal rod through the hole. Mr. Yi’s 75-year-old wife, Ms. Wu Manping, was terrified and thought a burglar had come. During the commotion, the police revealed themselves and instructed the locksmith to remove the lock altogether.

Two officers restrained Ms. Wu, while the other three officers search everywhere, including the drawers and wardrobes. They seized three music players and a few charm amulets bearing Falun Gong information. They told Ms. Wu that her husband had been issued a formal arrest warrant on March 12, 2025.

The Longkou City Court held a virtual hearing of Mr. Yi’s case (exact time unknown) using a cell phone and sentenced him to five and a half years. He was transferred to the Shandong Province Men’s Prison on June 11.

This is not the first time that Mr. Yi has been targeted for his faith. He was arrested at least 18 times prior to his latest persecution and served two five-year prison terms (October 2004 – October 2009 and August 2014 – August 2019). His wife Ms. Wu was also repeatedly arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Following an arrest on October 27, 2014, she was given three years and four months in prison and released in February 2018.
