(Minghui.org) The Meihua Town Police Station in Gaocheng District, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province has been actively persecuting local Falun Gong practitioners in recent years. This report presents two arrest cases that took place in 2021 and 2024, respectively.
70-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 1.5 Years
Mr. Zhou Yinli, around 70, was arrested on May 28, 2024, while distributing informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong with another practitioner, Mr. Zhang Xiqing. According to insiders, a government official in his 50s reported Mr. Zhou to police. Officers from the Meihua Town Police Station arrested both men later that day and took them to the Gaocheng District Detention Center on criminal detention.
As Mr. Zhang was found to have high blood pressure, the detention center refused to keep him. He was released on the evening of May 29.
Meanwhile, the police raided both men’s homes and confiscated their Falun Gong books and informational materials.
During Mr. Zhou’s detention at the Gaocheng District Detention Center, the police attempted to force him to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong. He refused to comply and was later sentenced to 1.5 years by the Gaocheng District Court. He has been admitted to the Tangshan Prison to serve time.
It’s not clear whether Mr. Zhang faced prosecution.
Woman Arrested for Distributing Falun Gong Materials
Ms. Zhang Xueyan was distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Yangtai Village, Meihua Town, on November 3, 2021, when Yang Zhilei, the secretary of Yangtai Village, pulled over in front of her. Yang called Zhang Zhiwei, the chief of Meihua Town Police Station, and said, “We’ve arrested a Falun Gong practitioner.”
Yang told Ms. Zhang that the Meihua Town Police Station posted a 2,000-yuan reward for them to arrest Falun Gong practitioners. After he took Ms. Zhang to the police station the next day, the police chief Zhang took Ms. Zhang’s photos and identified her personal information through the facial recognition network. They then hired a locksmith to break into Ms. Zhang’s home and confiscated her Falun Gong books and other personal items.
Police chief Zhang had two officers interrogate Ms. Zhang the next morning. She refused to answer any questions and urged the police not to persecute law-abiding citizens like her. The officers recorded her words in the interrogation record. She was sent back home later that afternoon.
Ms. Zhang later returned to the police station and demanded the return of her confiscated items. Police chief Zhang rejected her and threatened to call the Domestic Security Division to escalate her case to a higher level.
