Jilin Woman Admitted to Prison After Losing Appeal, Family Denied Visits For More Than One Year

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Ruifeng from Changchun City, Jilin Province, was sent to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on April 7, 2025 to serve a 4.5-year term for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Zhang was arrested at home on April 29, 2024, by officers from the Ziyou Boulevard Police Station. They confiscated her computer, printer, Falun Gong books, and other valuables.

The police kept her at the police station for 17 days and then took her to a local detention center on May 15, 2024. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to four and a half years in early October 2024. She filed an appeal and represented herself in the case. It is unclear when her appeal hearing was held. She was then transferred to prison on April 7, 2025 after she lost her appeal.

Ms. Zhang’s family has not been allowed to visit her since her arrest. The reason given was that she refuses to renounce her faith, Falun Gong. According to insiders, Ms. Zhang could only have a liquid diet because her teeth were damaged (it’s not known how they were damaged).
