Notion of Taking Consummation for Granted

(Minghui.org) Some Dafa practitioners believe they will reach consummation no matter what, and that it’s just a matter of time. With this notion, they don’t take cultivation practice seriously. In fact, when they think this way, they have a pursuit, and are taking consummation for granted.

Master told us:

“...whether a Dafa disciple departs earlier or later, he or she achieves Consummation.” (“Fa Teaching Given at the 2014 San Francisco Fa Conference,” Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XIII)

I do not believe that Master includes the disciples who are full of attachments and fail to take cultivation seriously.

Some practitioners who learned Falun Dafa before July 1999 think they have cultivated for a long time, and have begun slacking off. They neither hold themselves to high standards, nor act in accordance with the teachings. When they were mired in tribulations and could not pass the tests, they wished to depart from the world, believing that they would consummate anyway. In the past few years, several of these practitioners have died.

Master said:

“After cultivating for a period of time, are your thoughts still the same? Are you continuing on the path because of those human attachments? If so, you cannot be counted as my disciple. It means that you have not discarded your fundamental attachments and have failed to understand the Fa from the Fa. Those who have been weeded out during the evil tests that Dafa has encountered in China are all persons who hadn’t abandoned those attachments. It should also be said that they have negatively affected Dafa. ” (“Towards Consummation,” The Essentials of Diligent Progress II)

Should these practitioners who left us be considered genuine practitioners when they were not diligently doing the three things Master asks of us? What will happen to those who do not fulfill their vows? There is a high standard for reaching consummation. We should be responsible and not take what Master said out of context.

Of course, many who departed early may very well have been steadfast practitioners, as everyone’s situation differs. I am not drawing definitive conclusions for anyone specifically. Please kindly point out any of my understandings that are not in line with the teachings.
