(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhou Lina from Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to four and a half years and fined 6,000 yuan on March 14, 2025 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
The Linghai City Court did not mail the verdict to Ms. Zhou’s lawyer until March 18, 2025, four days after the ruling. According to an insider, the delay was a tactic intended to shorten the window of time Ms. Zhou had to appeal her conviction. She managed to file an appeal before the deadline.
Ms. Zhou, in her 40s, was arrested on August 21, 2024. The police ransacked her rental home and seized 115,000 yuan in cash and two Certificates of Deposit, worth 50,000 yuan and 30,000 yuan respectively, during an earlier raid on April 14, 2024. They still have not returned the money.
Judge Xie Lihua from the Linghai City Court presided over Ms. Zhou’s trial on February 18, 2025. Judges Tian Fang and Zhang Meng, as well as prosecutor Li Feng and assistant prosecutor Tan Yuwei from the Linghai City Procuratorate were also present. Linghai is under the administration of Jinzhou, and the Linghai City Procuratorate and the Linghai City Court have been designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the greater Jinzhou area.
Ms. Zhou is likely still held at the Jinzhou Women’s Detention Center at the time of this report. See the related reports for details of her arrest and trial.
