(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhu Ying, 62, from Beijing, was sentenced to two years on February 13, 2025 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Zhu, a retired bus driver, was arrested on June 4, 2024, while visiting her father in Xinglong County, Chengde City, Hebei Province (about 100 miles away). She was at her father’s home alone when the police broke in. They did not notify her family in Beijing of her arrest until after they took her to the Chengde City Detention Center.

During the required physical exam, Ms. Zhu was found to have systolic blood pressure readings between 200 and 220 mmHg (when a normal range is 120 mmHg or lower). Despite her condition, the Chengde City Procuratorate still issued a formal arrest warrant.

In September 2024, Ms. Zhu felt numb and was unable to walk or talk. Her lawyer requested that she be released on bail given the fact that she was still suffering from complications of a brain tumor she developed in 2020. The police denied the request.

Ms. Zhu stood trial at the Chengde City Court on February 10, 2025. She was sentenced three days later.

Ms. Zhu began practicing Falun Gong in 1994 and has been repeatedly targeted since the persecution began in 1999. Prior to her latest ordeal, she was sentenced to six years following an arrest in 2000 for printing Falun Gong informational materials. She was brutally tortured while she was incarcerated at the Beijing Women’s Prison.

Officers from the Anzhen Police Station arrested Ms. Zhu and seven other local practitioners while they were visiting another practitioner on December 29, 2015. All nine practitioners were taken to the Chaoyang District Detention Center. Due to her poor health, Ms. Zhu was moved to the Beijing Police Hospital (also known as Beijing Second Detention Center). She was released on bail on January 2, 2016.

Ms. Zhu developed a brain tumor in 2020 and was in a coma for 12 hours. She was rushed to a hospital for emergency care. She survived but continued to experience complications.
