(Minghui.org) A 43-year-old man in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, is facing indictment for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Tong Mingyu was arrested on November 24, 2024, when he paid a visit to another Falun Gong practitioner, Liu Shuwen (gender unknown). The police happened to be raiding Liu’s home and they arrested Mr. Tong as well. Both practitioners were then taken to the Daoli District Detention Center.
An officer then called Mr. Tong’s mother and claimed to be a delivery worker needing to confirm the address of the home she shared with her son. The elderly woman believed in the officer and gave out the info, only to see the police arrive in no time to raid the home. They confiscated Mr. Tong’s computer and other items.
Mr. Tong refused to answer questions during the interrogation and later went on a hunger strike. The detention center guards force-fed him. They notified him on December 5, 2024, that he had been issued a formal arrest warrant and is now facing indictment. His family is in the process of hiring a lawyer to defend his innocence.
Prior to his latest persecution episode, Mr. Tong served a 3.5-year prison term from June 25, 2017, to December 20, 2020. He was on the verge of death when he was released. He didn’t recover until two years later. Due to the ongoing persecution, he was unable to land a good job despite having a bachelor’s degree. He did odd jobs to support him and his parents.
