“Their Skills Were Superb”

Construction company president Shigeichi Honda and his wife saw Shen Yun in Osaka on February 8.
“Whether it was men’s or women’s dances, both had their own merits and their skills were superb,” said Mr. Honda.
He said of the water sleeve dance, “The gorgeous long sleeves danced like fairies, which were very expressive. They reminded me of Japanese legends about goddesses descending to earth, as well as the goddesses depicted in ancient temples. I saw the prototypes of these figures in the performance.”
“I once again felt that the traditional culture of Japan was deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture, such as the architectural style of temples, the murals in temples, etc. For example, a number of ancient temples in Nara are very similar in form to ancient Chinese temples, and they all inherited the traditional Chinese architectural style,” he said.
“China’s traditional Taoism, as well as the once-popular Buddhism, have related faith roots in the culture of cultivation, and may still be deeply rooted in the faiths today. This kind of culture also laid the foundation for the five thousand years of Chinese civilization. I realized this from the performance,” Mr. Honda said.
“An Otherworldly Feeling”

Mr. Satake described the moment that the curtain rose, “I was very surprised! It felt like entering a beautiful fantasy, but it was extremely real. It was as if you have entered the Buddha world. The whole scene gave an otherworldly feeling.”
“Japanese dance is usually restrained and subtle, but Shen Yun’s dance could express delicate emotions, but also had a majestic atmosphere that was outgoing. It was as if you were enjoying it in a world that was both real and illusory,” he said.
Mr. Satake also spoke about the tenor’s performance. “That was amazing! The voice seemed to penetrate directly into my throat and deep into my heart, and resonate with me. I felt like my own voice was shaking along. It was so wonderful. Those lyrics told us what the true meaning of life is, and taught us how we should live and what kind of life we should pursue,” he said.
Mrs. Satake spoke about traditional Chinese culture. “It is rich and deep and contains amazing essence. This performance made me realize that traditional culture is a precious treasure that must be cherished. It can bestow upon us beauty, depth of heart, and strength,” she said.
