(Minghui.org) Four Huangshi City, Hubei Province, residents were sentenced to prison in December 2025 because they practice Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Tong Juyin, 75, was given eight months. The prison sentences of Ms. Li Caihua, Ms. Wang Chunhong, and Ms. Li Ping remain to be investigated.
The four women were arrested on December 25, 2024, while talking to people about Falun Gong in Daye City, which is under the administration of Huangshi City. Officers from the Liurenba Police Station took them to the Daye City Lockup to serve a 15-day detention. They were transferred to the Huangshi City First Detention Center on January 9, 2025. Ms. Tong failed the required physical exam and was denied admission. She was released on bail and the other three remained in detention.
The Daye City Police Department submitted the case to the Daye City Procuratorate in June 2025 or earlier (exact time unknown).
Ms. Li Caihua and Ms. Wang were also released on bail later on. The Daye City Court notified the two of them and Ms. Tong on December 4, 2025 to pick up their verdicts and pay fines. Ms. Tong was taken back into custody on arrival. Ms. Li Caihua and Ms. Wang were allowed to leave.
It is unclear where Ms. Li Ping is currently held. The details of the four women’s trial are unknown.
Past Persecution of Ms. Tong
Ms. Tong, born in October 1950, retired from the Huangshi City Textile Printing and Dyeing Factory. She took up Falun Gong in 1996 and soon recovered from her over-two-decade-long frozen shoulder, back pain, and stomach problems. She also learned to be a better person and mended her strained relationship with her husband and neighbors.
After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, Ms. Tong held firm to her faith and was repeatedly targeted. She returned to her hometown in Luotian County, Hubei Province, to visit her parents on December 25, 1999, only to be arrested and put in the Luotian County Detention Center. The Luotian County Police Department forced her son to pay a 3,000 yuan bail bond before they released her five days later.
Ms. Tong went to Beijing to visit her daughter in June 2002 and was arrested three days later by four people from Huangshi City, including officer Liu Dewen from her local Shengyanggang Police Station, Wu from the local 610 Office, Ke from her local street committee, and Huang Wangzhen from her workplace. They took her back to Huangshi and interrogated her with torture for two straight days. Afterwards, they put her in the Qingtangwan Detention Center. She was released four days later, but not before she was forced to pay 380 yuan in food expenses.
Officer Zhou from the Shengyanggang Police Station broke into Ms. Tong’s home on July 7, 2005 and took her to the Zhonglou Street Committee. He interrogated her all night and took her to the police station the next day. He beat and verbally abused her intermittently for the next 24 hours.
When Ms. Tong went to Beijing again in March 2014 to visit her daughter, she was arrested and held at the Legezhuang Detention Center in Beijing for 28 days.
