On March 29, 2019, several officers seized Ms. Geng at home and took her straight to the Qinhuai District Court for a hearing. She was allowed to return home after the trial. While awaiting the verdict, Ms. Geng had a relapse of several old illnesses due to mental stress, and she died in November 2019.

Ms. Geng took up Falun Gong before the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution in 1999. She credited the practice for enabling her to recover from various illnesses.

She was first held at the Ganlan Hotel under the Pukou District Police Department and then transferred to the Judong Women’s Forced Labor Camp in mid-January 2001, to serve a term of unknown length.

Ms. Geng’s home was ransacked between November 2004 and January 2005, for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was held at the Nanjing City Detention Center and at a brainwashing session in Bole Hotel. Her workplace was forced to pay the brainwashing center 10,000 yuan as her “tuition.”

Ms. Geng was harassed, intimidated, and her home was ransacked in mid-October 2015, for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party who ordered the persecution.
