(Minghui.org) British government officials and members of Parliament (MP) sent statements in which they condemned the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution of Falun Dafa, especially its state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting. They also condemned the CCP’s transnational repression.

Letter from Stephen Doughty MP, Minister of State for Europe, North America and UK Overseas Territories

Stephen Doughty MP stated in his letter, “The UK Government champions freedom of religion or belief for all. In the UK, we are firmly committed to promoting and protecting the right to freedom of religion or belief, and in being a strong voice internationally in defence of this fundamental right.

“The UK Government condemns the deterioration in the Kremlin's dire domestic human rights record and calls for the Russian state to uphold its international commitments on the freedom of religion or belief. We regularly use our public communications and position in multilateral fora to highlight, and hold Russia to account for, its human rights violations. For example, on 31 July the UK raised the Russian authorities' repression of internal political opposition at the UN Security Council. The UK's Human Rights Ambassador reiterated our call for the Russian authorities to release all political prisoners on 4 August.”

Regrading the CCP’s persecution of Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong), he stated, “The environment for freedom of religion or belief across China is restrictive, which includes the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners both at home and overseas. We work to uphold the right to freedom of religion and belief through our position at the UN, G7 and other multilateral fora, and through bilateral engagement with China. The Prime Minister, former Foreign Secretary, Chancellor, Energy Secretary and Minister for the Indo-Pacific have all raised human rights with their Chinese counterparts in recent months.”

Condemning the CCP’s Forced Organ Harvesting

Letter from Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP

Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP stated in her letter, “I am deeply troubled by the allegations of organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience, including Falun Gong practitioners. The findings of the independent China Tribunal, chaired by Sir Geoffrey Nice KC in 2019, which concluded beyond reasonable doubt that such practices had occurred on a significant scale, remain a matter of serious concern.”

She continued, “It is vital that the UK continues to speak out against such grave human rights abuses, and I will continue to call on the UK government to hold other nations to account for human rights abuses.”

The Rt Hon Mark Pritchard MP

The Rt Hon Mark Pritchard MP stated, “I share your concern about the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and other groups in China, including through organ harvesting. This is one of many reasons why the previous Conservative government designated China as one of 32 human rights priority countries.

“The UK Government continues to raise human rights concerns, including on the treatment of religious and ethnic minorities, directly with the Chinese authorities, but I will be happy to pass on your concerns to the Foreign Office Ministers.”

Andrew Cooper MP, Ian Murray MP, Mike Kane MP, Feryal Clark MP and Jo Platt MP stated in their joint letter: “I am aware of the incredibly disturbing allegations that have been reported over several years about human organ harvesting in China. I also understand that minority and religious groups, including Falun Gong practitioners, may be being specifically targeted.”

The letter continued, “I know that more recent reports have said that the practice continues, including the judgment of the China Tribunal initiated by the International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China (ETAC). Indeed, the China Tribunal concluded that forced organ harvesting has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale, with Falun Gong practitioners and the Uighurs being the main victims.

“I am also aware the Government continues to monitor the situation for religious minorities in China closely. I will continue to support the Government in championing freedom of religion or belief for all abroad.”

Letter from Member of Scotland Parliament

Ariane Burgess MSP

Ariane Burgess MSP stated, “regarding the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and the abhorrent practice of forced organ harvesting in China. I appreciate your taking the time to share such detailed and compelling evidence, and I commend your tireless advocacy for human rights and justice.

“I was particularly struck by the recent revelations you referenced, including the BBC report on the private conversation between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, and the survivor testimony of Cheng Pei-ming. These accounts, alongside the findings of the China Tribunal and the recent European Parliament Resolution (2024/2504), underscore the urgent need for international scrutiny and action.

She continued, “The Scottish Parliament has previously expressed grave concern about this issue. In 2012, a motion (S4M-04684) condemned the practice of organ harvesting in Chinese prisons, particularly targeting Falun Gong practitioners, and called for UN investigation. More recently, Scottish Ministers have reiterated their commitment to monitoring human rights abuses and ensuring that Scottish institutions are not complicit in unethical practices.”

She also said she submitted a written inquiry to the Scottish government, asking for clarification on what measures would be taken to prevent Scotland from having any direct or indirect connection with China’s organ transplant industry.
