Mr. Yang Chengyuan of Taian City, Shandong Province, passed away in November 2011 after being persecuted for his faith in Falun Gong. He was 73.

Mr. Yang was first arrested at the end of 1999 and held in two detention centers for one month each. Then he was transferred to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp to serve a three-year term. Due to high blood pressure, he was denied admission and allowed to serve time at home. The police extorted 2,000 yuan from his family.

Due to the abuse at the detention center and short stay in the labor camp, Mr. Yang was emaciated and extremely weak. Before he fully recovered, he was arrested again in November 2000 and released a few days later due to his poor health.

On November 27, three days after his release, he and another practitioner went to the local police stations and government to deliver materials to the officers, urging them not to persecute Falun Gong. They were arrested and taken to the Taian City Detention Center the next day. Due to Mr. Yang’s physical condition, he was denied admission by the detention center. The police held him at a hotel and interrogated him for a week. His family had another 2,000 yuan extorted from them.

Mr. Yang was arrested again in the spring of 2001 and held in the Huangshantou Brainwashing Center for over two weeks. He was fined 1,000 yuan.

Several officers broke into Mr. Yang’s home on October 16, 2002, carried him into the police car, and took him to the Feicheng Brainwashing Center.

Mr. Yang was devastated when his wife Ms. Liu Faling was arrested on July 20, 2005, and given a three-year term in the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. He fell ill and became incapacitated. After struggling with failing health for a few more years, he died in November 2011.
