(Minghui.org) Master Li, founder of Falun Dafa, wrote in a recent article, “Ordeals have been wrought upon our practice since 1999, when they began in China, and have never ceased, be it in the United States or elsewhere in the world.” (“The Ordeals Our Spiritual Discipline Faces")
Although some practitioners have been talking about the ordeals, they made it sound as if these ordeals had only occurred since 2024 and 2025. I think this is a major gap in cultivation practice as some practitioners are still waiting for Master Li to give instructions on what to do.
Looking within and improving xinxing is a fundamental part of cultivation practice. If a practitioner has not done well in the past 26 years since the persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started in 1999, and if a practitioner often considers things with human notions, this could be a final opportunity to catch up as the ordeals are now spreading overseas.
Some practitioners often talk about opposing the old forces without looking inward or identifying their own problems. In fact, the reason that the old forces can interfere with certain practitioners is because they have loopholes. If such a practitioner has obvious attachments but does not take action to eliminate them, the old forces would not allow them to continue on like that.
Fundamentally speaking, if a person identifies their problems, but refuses to change, that person cannot be considered a Falun Dafa practitioner. Even if they claim to oppose the old forces, this cannot be used as an excuse to stop improving based on Dafa teachings; otherwise, he or she is not a Dafa practitioner in the first place.
After the ordeals related to the persecution of Falun Dafa started, Master has been very compassionate and did not allow them to spread throughout the world. As the vicious elements are nearly wiped out right now, there are only low spirits and rotten ghosts left and they cannot do much overseas. In this situation, practitioners should not hold onto their attachments, as the old forces will take advantage of them. After all, letting go of human notions and attachments are what we practitioners should do.
Some practitioners living overseas have been indulging themselves in an easy life. Others have left the suppression in mainland China to come overseas to live. If we are now feeling fearful due to a perceived “ripple effect” of the persecution, we need to think about why we are fearful. That is, are we worried about ourselves or are we worried whether everyday people will still have the opportunity to be saved?
Some have treated looking within as a formality and this is not enough. For example, if someone checked the traffic lights but ignored them while driving a car, that would not be acceptable. You cannot tell the traffic police officer that, “I have looked at the traffic lights, but did not follow them.” You will still be held responsible in that case. It is the same thing with cultivation practice. If one has “looked within” without “seeing” attachments or putting forth solid efforts to eliminate them, that will not work.
We need to regard Dafa as our teacher to really improve ourselves. Master has emphasized this often. Many practitioners have cultivated for 10, 20, or 30 years but still have not learned to take the Fa as teacher. Hopefully they will not miss future opportunities to do so. As practitioners, we need to pay attention to these basic responsibilities, make progress, and meet the standards of Falun Dafa.
Every opportunity is precious. If we do not miss any of them, and keep improving ourselves, we will surely be able to complete cultivation.
