(Minghui.org) The family of a Changchun City, Jilin Province resident recently confirmed that he had been sentenced to three years for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Zhao Lijun, 59, lost contact with local Falun Gong practitioners on September 23, 2023. When a practitioner went to his home to check on him three months later, the practitioner noticed that his car was covered with a thick layer of dust. It was apparent that the car hadn’t been moved for a long time. Mr. Zhao’s wife said that he was sent to some place for “a study [brainwashing] session.” The practitioner knew right away that he must have been arrested for his faith.

It was recently confirmed that Mr. Zhao had been admitted to the Gongzhuling Prison to serve the three-year term, but details about his indictment, trial or sentencing aren’t clear.

This isn’t the first time that Mr. Zhao has been targeted for his faith. He was previously arrested in March 2002 and detained for 15 days. He was fired by his workplace four months later in July. The authorities gave him one year of forced labor in May 2003. While serving time at the Weizigou Forced Labor Camp and the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, he was subjected to corporal punishment. The guards forced him to do hard labor without pay. His family was also harassed at the same time.

Mr. Zhao was arrested again on August 6, 2020 and detained at the Changchun City Third Detention Center for an unknown amount of time.
