Witnessing a Fellow Practitioner’s Humility and Selflessness

(Minghui.org) One day in December 2022, the New Tang Dynasty TV receiver in a practitioner’s house suddenly lost its signal. Because the practitioner’s family watched Shen Yun every year, she was anxious. When I visited her house I saw that her TV signal receiver was installed on the roof of the building. I went to the roof and found that the receiver was hanging down, and it no longer worked. I went downstairs and told her, “The receiver is rusty.” She was very anxious and said, “What should I do? I don’t want to miss Shen Yun. Let’s go find Guoqiang, a practitioner who knows technical things.”

All the practitioners in our area are women in their seventies and eighties, and no one knows how to fix the TV signal receivers. It’s not easy to find Guoqiang, who lives far away from us, and his work schedule is irregular. We don’t know when he’ll be home. But luckily, I found him the next day. He agreed to stop by and take a look, but didn’t say what time he would come.

I bought a new television signal receiver and went to the practitioner’s house on the third day. After a while, someone knocked on the door. We opened the door and saw that it was Guoqiang. We were all stunned. He entered the house and said, “I set up the signal receiver on the roof.” I asked, “How do you get upstairs?” He said, “I climbed up.” The practitioner lives in an eighteen-story duplex building. Guoqiang is in his fifties. I said, “You’ve worked hard.” He said, “It is good to endure hardship.”

We turned on the TV. When he saw that there was no signal, he said, “It’s weird. I fixed it on the roof.” He went upstairs to check again and found that the wire was weathered. I went to buy another cable and installed it. We then turned on the TV, success!

On March 1, 2024, NTDTV changed from “Korean Satellite” to “Japanese Satellite.” The Korea Satellite stopped for more than twenty days. Practitioners and their family members were very anxious. I met an elderly practitioner on the bus, and she said, “My TV signal is gone. Can you come and have a look at it?” I said, “Don’t worry, I’ll look for Guoqiang.”

It’s not easy to find Guoqiang. I hadn’t contacted him since 2022. I went to his house twice but no one was there. So, I went to another practitioner’s house and asked. She said she asked a male practitioner to debug her signal, but it didn’t work. I asked him to try it at my house, but there was still no signal after more than two hours of debugging. I decided to find Guoqiang. This time Guoqiang was studying the Fa with his wife. When I explained why I came, he told his wife, “I’ll go now.”

It was about eight o’clock in the evening. I lived on the seventh floor. Guoqiang went upstairs and immediately started to debug, and quickly fixed it. The NTDTV signal was very good. Right after that, he went to the other practitioner’s house, who lived on the tenth floor. Her television receiver was on the wall outside the kitchen. A large wall was blocking the signal.

She said, “This time it should be installed on the top of the building (15 floors).” Guoqiang said, “We’ll have to buy a 30-meter cable. It was past ten o’clock.” I said, “We’ll have to do this tomorrow.”

The next day, the TV signals receiver and the 30-meter line were ready. Guoqiang and another male practitioner arrived. They went up to the roof, found a suitable place to install the receiver, connected the wires, and debugged the receiver with the instrument. Guoqiang went upstairs to connect the wire to the set-top box, and turned on the TV. But there was no signal. He said, “It’s strange. I adjusted everything. Why is there no signal?”

It was my fault. I accidentally bent the cable when I helped them pull it up, and it broke in the middle. I bought a new cable, and it took a long time to install it. While I was buying the cable, Guoqiang hurried to another practitioner’s home to set up her receiver. Guoqiang was always pleasant and did not complain.

It was about two o’clock in the afternoon. Guoqiang went to another practitioner’s home. She lived on the fifteenth floor. The elevator was not working, so Guoqiang said, “let’s use the stairs.” The television receiver was on the top of the eighteenth floor. We took the stairs. But there was no light in the stairway. The higher we climbed the darker it was. I couldn’t see my hand. We walked in the dark; we told each other to walk slowly. When we got to the top of the building, we couldn’t see where the door was to go onto the roof. We repeated in our hearts, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” and asked Master to help us find the door.

I suddenly saw a small bright spot in front of me. It was indeed a door. When we went to the rooftop, we saw that the receiver was rusty, the cable was weathered, and the signal was blocked by a wall. We went back down the stairs in the dark and explained the situation to the practitioner. Since I had to buy a new TV signal receiver and a cable, I said to Guoqiang, “That’s it for today, you can go home.” Because Guoqiang had a visitor coming the next day, he said he wouldn’t return the next day.

At around six o’clock the next morning, Guoqiang came to see me. I asked, “Why are you here?” He said, “There are still many practitioners whose TVs have no signals. Let’s hurry up and not delay their families from watching NTDTV programs.” We went to buy the receiver, but the store was not open yet, so we went to another practitioner’s house. Her receiver was also blocked by a wall. We had no choice but to remove it and find a new place to install it. It took a lot of effort to get it done.

We quickly went to the next house. This practitioner lived on the fifth floor. Her receiver was on the right side of the wall outside the window sill, about two meters away from the inside. I was a little scared, and I remembered that Guoqiang told me a year ago that he was afraid of heights. He didn’t say anything. He climbed up the window sill, opened the window, sat on the flower fence, and carefully moved towards the receiver. He then stood up slowly in front of the signal receiver. The screws of the signal receiver were rusted, and it took a long time to remove them.

Guoqiang removed the television signal receiver and slowly moved it back to the window. I tied the seat belt around his waist and the other end to the heating pipe. He again slowly moved to the place where the television signal receiver was installed, installed the new receiver, and started tuning it. After a while, he found the correct direction and debugged it. The practitioner’s family was very grateful. I told Guoqiang, “Thank you for your hard work.” He said, “It is a good thing to endure hardship.”

In order to let more people watch NTDTV programs, clarify the truth, and save more people, no matter how busy Guoqiang is, as long as someone asks him, he takes time out of his busy schedule to install TV signal receivers. The installation of each receiver is different—some buildings are high-rise, some are low-rise. Some have to be installed outside the window, and some are on the roof. Despite the cold, heat, scorching sun, or cold wind, Guoqiang always helps, and enables practitioners and their families to watch NTDTV programs.

While working with Guoqiang, I have seen many shining points in him. I’ve been very touched by his humility and selflessness. Compared to him, I have many attachments, such as pursuing comfort, laziness, showing off, vanity, etc. These attachments must be removed. I must be strict with myself, strive forward diligently, do a good job in doing the three things Master asked, and live up to Master’s compassion and salvation.
