(Minghui.org) A resident of Huludao City, Liaoning Province, remains detained following her arrest weeks ago for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
A woman knocked on Ms. Liu Cong’s door past 5 a.m. on July 12, 2024. She claimed to be a downstairs neighbor in the same apartment building and complained about water leaks from Ms. Liu’s unit.
Ms. Liu opened the door, only to see more than ten agents from the Longgang Police Department and the Xijie Police Station barge in. Only one of them wore a uniform. She demanded to see their IDs, and they only produced a search warrant.
The police confiscated Falun Gong books, a laptop, a cell phone, flash drives, micro SD cards, a car key, and 2,000 yuan in cash. They next took Ms. Liu to the Huludao City Detention Center, where she remains.
Ms. Liu’s husband, Mr. Luan Changhui, a boat engineer, is still serving time for practicing Falun Gong. He was arrested on July 20, 2021, and sentenced to four years with a 20,000 yuan fine on November 30, 2021. The Huludao City Intermediate Court rejected his appeal on January 25, 2022, and he was admitted to Shenyang First Prison on August 6 of that year. He filed a motion to reconsider his case with the Huludao Intermediate Court, which held a hearing at the prison on December 19, 2022. It is unclear whether a decision has been made about the motion case. For details of Mr. Luan’s arrest, sentencing, and appeal, see the related reports below.
