(Minghui.org) A Falun Gong practitioner in Chongqing was recently harassed for his faith, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Two officers from the Linfeng Town Police Station showed up at Mr. Liu Zhimin’s home on the afternoon of June 20, 2024. Without identifying themselves or showing their IDs, they took photos of Mr. Liu.

Mr. Liu took out a copy of the Chinese Constitution and pointed out to the police that the Constitution protects one’s freedom of belief. He added that no Chinese law ever criminalizes Falun Gong and that the practice was not on the cult list published by the Ministry of Public Security either. The police said they weren’t aware of the facts and that they would look it up when they went back.

Mr. Liu’s wife, Ms. Zhang Li, also showed the police the first page of The Communist Manifesto, which began with the sentence reading “A spectre is haunting Europe—the spectre of communism.” She pointed out that even Karl Marx himself called communism a spectre, which indicates its negative and evil nature. She urged the police not to follow the communist regime in persecuting good people.

The two officers said they had never heard communism being called a spectre. They became infuriated, as their impression of communism had been the glorified version instilled by the Chinese Communist Party. They said that both the Chinese Constitution and The Communist Manifesto are illegal reactionary publications and threatened to confiscate them. They relented after Mr. Liu told them that both books were official publications. The police took photos of the books for “further investigation.”

Prior to the recent harassment, Mr. Liu has been arrested multiple times and served two prison terms for his faith in Falun Gong. He was sentenced to two and a half years in March 2016 by the Changshou District Court, following an arrest on September 17, 2015. He was arrested again on January 7, 2020 and sentenced to two years and eight months by the Jiangbei District Court in December 2020.
