(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 11 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 18 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
1. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Song Yuemei Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

1. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Song Yuemei Sentenced to Three Years in Prison
Ms. Song Yuemei from Huanren County was arrested for distributing Falun Gong materials. The Xihu District Court delivered the verdict to Ms. Song’s home around May 20, 2024. She’d been sentenced to three years in prison and could appeal within the appeal period.
2. [Tianjin] Ms. Zhang Fengcai Sentenced to Prison Again
Ms. Zhang Fengcai, 75, from the Hebei District was arrested again in March 2023. It was recently reported that she was again sentenced to prison for an unknown term. She is currently being held in the Liyuantou Women’s Prison.
Ms. Zhang was arrested several times for refusing to give up her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She was sentenced to prison twice for a total of 13 and a half years.
3. [Yichang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Xiang Wenlan Arrested Again
Ms. Xiang Wenlan from the Yiling District was arrested at the end of 2023. She was sentenced to one year in prison by the Wujiagang District Court, and is serving her sentence outside of prison for health reasons. On May 2, 2024, Ms. Xiang was arrested and taken to prison.
4. [Baishan City, Jilin Province] Ms. Liu Yunjuan Arrested
Ms. Liu Yunjuan was staying at her daughter’s home in Fusong County to take care of her grandchild. On the afternoon of May 22, 2024, Ms. Liu was arrested at the door of her daughter’s home when she returned after going out. Those who arrested her ransacked the place and confiscated all her Falun Gong books.
5. [Fuzhou City, Fujian Province] Ms. He Qiuhong Arrested
Four officers from the Wenquan Police Station broke into Ms. He Qiuhong’s home and arrested her around 8 p.m. on May 22, 2024. They ransacked her home and confiscated an MP3 and two Falun Gong books. Ms. He has been held in the Dongjie Police Station.
6. [Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Yang Kuanfen Arrested
Ms. Yang Kuanfen was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong at the Daotou farmers market in Qishan Town on the morning of May 25, 2024. She was arrested and taken to the Zhaoyuan City Detention Center by officers from the Qishan Town Police Station. The Zhaoyuan City Domestic Security Division originally planned to detain her for 15 days. After failing the physical exam, she was released that night.
7. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region] Ms. Du Saili’s Home Ransacked
Several of Ms. Du Saili’s relatives from the country came to Chifeng City to see a doctor. They stopped by her home. Plainclothes officers who were monitoring Ms. Du’s home spotted them. They assumed that Falun Gong practitioners were gathering at Ms. Du’s home, so they arrested Ms. Du and her relatives, took them to the police station, and interrogated them. Ms. Du and her relatives were released only after the police verified that it was not a Falun Gong meeting. The police ransacked Ms. Du’s home and confiscated her Falun Gong books.
8. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Several Practitioners Detained
Officers from the Tongcheng County Domestic Security Division and various police stations arrested over 10 practitioners in Tongcheng County and subordinate townships and took them to the case handling center in the Tongcheng County Police Department on the morning of April 23, 2024. The officers then ransacked the practitioners’ homes and confiscated their Falun Gong books and printed materials.
Lei Shiqiang was detained for seven days, Chen Pingyang for 15 days, Zuo Qing’e for 15 days, Jiang Sihua for 15 days, and Du Meiying for 1 day. They have all returned home.
9. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Chen Guifen Arrested
At 8 a.m. on May 22, 2024, 84-year-old Ms. Chen Guifen was once again arrested and taken to the Fanjiang Road Police Station. Two uniformed police officers with guns took Ms. Chen to the station in a police car. When they told her to sign paperwork, she ignored them.
10. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Lai Kexiu Arrested
Ms. Lai Kexiu was arrested at her home in Zhuwa No. 3 Brigade, Mengyang Town, by police officers and community personnel who took orders from Qian Zhengtian and Deng Chao at the Mengyang Town 610 Office. It is not clear where Ms. Lai is being held.
11. [Taicang City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Qin Yanqiu Faces Sentencing
It was reported that Ms. Qin Yanqiu from Taicang City is being held in the Suzhou City Detention Center. It was reported that she would be sentenced to one year and six months in prison.
12. [Yichang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Sun Yong’s Original Verdict Upheld
Ms. Yang Chengyun, 65; Ms. Ma, 74; and Ms. Sun Yong, 76, all from the Gezhouba Sub-district, were reported to the police and arrested in March 2023 for talking to people about Falun Gong.
Ms. Yang and Ms. Ma were detained for 15 days. Ms. Sun was placed under residential surveillance for six months. Six months later, Zhou Xiangdong, head of the Domestic Security Division, brought charges against her and turned her case over to the procuratorate. On September 23, Ms. Sun was sentenced to one year of home surveillance and fined 1,000 yuan. Ms. Sun appealed and the intermediate court summoned her. In March 2024, the intermediate court issued its judgment to uphold the original verdict.
