(Minghui.org) A 58-year-old Wuhan City, Hubei Province, resident, has been held in the Wuhan City Brainwashing Center since November 25, 2023 for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Xu Lixiu was arrested at around 4 p.m. on November 25, while studying Falun Gong teachings at the home of Ms. Hu Aihong. She has been detained at the brainwashing center since and her family has been kept in the dark regarding her current situation.
This is the second time that Ms. Xu has been held at the Wuhan City Brainwashing Center. The first detention was after her earlier arrest on August 15, 2019. While it’s not clear how long she was detained there, she was arrested again on October 12, 2019 at her employer’s home while working as a housekeeper.
Ms. Xu was held at the Wuhan City First Detention Center and sentenced to three years after over a year of detention. At the Hubei Province Women’s Prison in Wuhan, she was forced to stand for long hours without moving, deprived of sleep, not allowed to use the restroom or wash her self, and given very small amounts of food.
Unable to bear the torture and mental pressure, she was forced to write several statements renouncing Falun Gong. When she was released in October 2022, several officers took her photo and forced her to sign more documents.
In addition to Ms. Xu herself, her father, younger brother, and his wife have also been persecuted for their shared faith in Falun Gong.
