(Minghui.org) A resident of Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province was admitted to prison in November 2023 after losing her appeal against a three-year sentence for raising awareness about the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of Falun Gong. The persecution has continued unabated since 1999.

Ms. Yan Lin, around 55, a military veteran and former dermatologist, was arrested on March 7, 2022, for using currency bills with information about Falun Gong printed on them [printing on currency is a creative way to share information about Falun Gong in response to the strict information censorship in China].

The police held Ms. Yan at a hotel between March 7 and 15, 2022, during which time they hung her up by the wrists from the top bunk of a bunk bed with her feet off the ground for multiple days. She was having her period at the time and became extremely weak after the torture.

Ms. Yan was later moved to a different facility and released on bail after an unknown period of detention there. The Dafeng District Procuratorate summoned her for an interview in June 2022 and indicted her soon after. She stood trial at the Dafeng District Court in late July 2022 and was sentenced to three years at the end of the hearing. Days later, the procuratorate had her undergo a physical examination. She was found to be in poor health and allowed to go home after that.

The Yancheng City Intermediate Court held a hearing on Ms. Yan’s appeal in November 2023 and ruled to uphold her wrongful conviction. She was taken for a physical examination and detained immediately after that. After some time at the Dafeng District Detention Center, Ms. Yan was transferred to the Nanjing City Women’s Prison (exact time unknown). She is currently held in Division Five.

This isn’t the first time that Ms. Yan has been targeted for her faith. Right after the onset of the persecution on July 20, 1999, she was held in the basement at her workplace for over a month because she refused to renounce Falun Gong.

Ms. Yan was arrested again in late 2007 for talking to people about Falun Gong. After one year in the Yancheng Detention Center, she was sentenced to three years with four years’ probation by the Yandu District Court. The police often harassed her after she was released. Her employer demoted her and deprived her of many of her benefits.

In early July 2011, Ms. Yan was deceived by the local 610 Office into going to a brainwashing center located in a hotel. She was detained for ten days and subjected to intensive brainwashing.

As a result of the long-term harassment, financial persecution, and propaganda spread by the communist regime to slander Falun Gong, Ms. Yan’s husband lived under extreme fear and pressure. He often beat Ms. Yan and verbally abused her. She didn’t fight back but continued to treat him and his parents well. Her kindness eventually moved her husband and he began to treat her well in return.
