(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Lin’s daughter received a phone call in late February 2024 notifying her to visit her critically ill father in a prison hospital. She went but was denied visits on the grounds that she and her father had household registrations in two different cities.
Mr. Li, around 60 and from Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, was arrested on July 18, 2021, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials. He stood trial around December 10, 2021, and his family learned in late March 2023 that he had been sentenced to five years in prison. He appealed the verdict but lost. He was then admitted to the Dujun Prison located in Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province.
He was abused in prison and fell critically ill. The prison authorities then moved him to the Wangwu Prison Hospital in Guiyang City in late February 2024. His daughter fears what could happen to him after being barred from seeing him in the hospital. He had always been healthy since he started to practice Falun Gong more than two decades ago, and it is unclear what abuse he went through in prison that resulted in his quickly declining health.
This is not the first time that Mr. Li has been targeted for his faith. He was previously twice jailed for a total of 13 years. He served a nine-year term from 2001 to 2010 and a four-year term from 2013 to 2017. Both times he was brutally tortured in prison. See the related report for details of his past persecution.
