(Minghui.org) Ms. Chen Ye’s friends, who had lost contact with her for more than one month, recently learned that the 60-year-old woman, who lives alone, has been detained again for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Chen, a resident of Xiantao City, Hubei Province, is currently held at an unknown location in the capital city of Wuhan. Her friends are calling on insiders to disclose details of her latest arrest and detention.
Ms. Chen took up Falun Gong in May 1997 and soon recovered from her numerous ailments, including arthritis, migraines, and insomnia. Her bad temper was also gone and she became calmer and more pleasant.
After the Chinese Communist Party launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Chen was repeatedly targeted for her faith. She was given one year of forced labor and held at brainwashing centers at least five times. Her daughter, also a Falun Gong practitioner, died in 2011 at the age of 24 as a result of the persecution.
One Year of Forced Labor
Ms. Chen went to Beijing on October 12, 1999 to appeal for her right to freedom of belief. She was arrested at Tiananmen Square and tortured at the Nanyuan Police Station. Six officers held her down on the ground and pricked her with electric needles. She was later taken back to Hubei Province and held for another month. She was also fined an unknown amount of money.
Ms. Chen went to Beijing again on October 18, 2000 to appeal for Falun Gong. She was arrested and taken back to Xiantao City. After more than 70 days in a detention center, she was transferred to the Shayang Labor Camp to serve a one-year term of forced labor.
When she went on a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention, the labor camp guards pried Ms. Chen’s mouth open to force-feed her. They also shocked her with electric batons and kept her handcuffed for long periods of time. Later they had Ms. Chen do unpaid manual labor during the day and forced her to do military-style squatting (see image below) at night until past 2 a.m.

Ms. Chen held firm to her faith and was later placed in solitary confinement and not allowed to sleep for days on end. A drug addict also slapped her in the face.
Held at Brainwashing Centers Three Years in a Row (2002 – 2004)
Ms. Chen was arrested again in 2002 and held at a brainwashing center in Xiantao City for an unknown amount of time. She was taken to another brainwashing center in Wuhan City the next year. During her detention, she was once hung up with her feet barely touching the ground (see image below).
Ms. Chen was sent to a third brainwashing center (this time in Macheng City, Hubei Province) in 2004. The guards there dragged her around on the ground, causing her ankles to bleed profusely. She went on a hunger strike in protest and was force-feed chili water through her nostrils. She was later moved to the brainwashing center in Wuhan and held there for an additional amount of time.
Two More Brainwashing Center Detentions – One Following Daughter’s Arrest and Another After Her Death
Ms. Chen’s daughter, Ms. Wang Yujie, was moved by her mother’s firm faith and joined her in practicing Falun Gong in 2006. The young woman was arrested on March 11, 2010 for distributing Falun Gong materials and was given one year of forced labor. For seeking her daughter’s release, Ms. Chen was arrested on March 20 that year and detained at a brainwashing center for two months.
After Ms. Wang’s labor camp term ended on March 11, 2011, she was taken straight to a brainwashing center in Wuhan City, where she was given toxic injections. By the time she was sent back to Xiantao City on May 17, 2011, she had become mentally disordered. She died on September 3, 2011. She was 24.
Ms. Chen was arrested again on October 19, 2023 and held at a brainwashing center for ten days. It is unclear exactly when her latest arrest in 2024 took place.
