(Minghui.org) A 91-year-old resident of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province had her home raided in October 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Xu Zilan’s ordeal began in mid-October 2024. She took a walk at a local park one day and ran into a friend, Ms. Zheng Yingying, who is around 71. Both women retired from the same local beer company and share the same faith in Falun Gong.
The two friends, who hadn’t seen each other for years, then went to a tea house. Unbeknownst to them, both had been followed by the police because of their faith.
A few days later, four officers from the Chigang Police Station, only one of them in uniform, broke into Ms. Xu’s home. They showed her pictures that they took of her and Ms. Zheng at the tea house. They also produced photos of her distributing Falun Gong informational materials at an unknown time.
The police questioned Ms. Xu as to where she got the materials. She said they were from another practitioner. They said she was deceived and used by that practitioner. She refuted them by saying that Falun Gong only brings benefits to its believers. She took up Falun Gong in February 1999 and recovered from her numerous diseases. More than two decades later, she’s still as healthy as she can be, thanks to Falun Gong.
The police confiscated Ms. Xu’s Falun Gong books, informational materials, a portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, and 160 yuan in cash.
It is unclear whether the police also harassed Ms. Zheng. She was previously arrested on March 31, 2020 for her faith and sentenced to 2.5 years on December 29 that year. After she was released, she faced tight surveillance.
Prior to Ms. Xu’s latest ordeal, she was previously arrested on June 13, 2006 for distributing Falun Gong materials.
