(Minghui.org) The Minghui.org website recently confirmed that the Guangdong Province Public Security Bureau on April 29, 2024 issued a notice titled, “Reward Measures for Reporting Illegal and Criminal Activities Involving Cults,” promising 100,000 yuan to each tipster who reported someone suspected of participating in cult activities.
The notice took effect on June 6, 2024 and will expire in five years.
While the notice did not mention Falun Gong explicitly, Falun Gong practitioners in Guangdong were all clear that the notice was targeting them. Since the Chinese Communist Party launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999, numerous practitioners have been persecuted for “using a cult to undermine law enforcement,” a standard pretext used to frame and sentence practitioners.
Twenty-five years have passed and the persecution remains unbated. Unable to crush Falun Gong practitioners, the Guangdong authorities issued this notice to try to entice the general public to report practitioners. Many members of the general public, however, have come to see the illegality of the persecution and the perseverance of practitioners in safeguarding their basic human rights of freedom of belief. It remains to be seen whether the notice will achieve the regime’s goal to turn the public against Falun Gong.
