(Minghui.org) A Beijing farmer was sentenced to one year and ten months with a 4,000 yuan fine in late October 2024 for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Lu Lianyi, in his 60s, lives in Dongwa Village, Pinggu District, Beijing. He was arrested by officers from the Nandulehe Police Station on February 6, 2024, for distributing flyers about Falun Gong. Li Changjun, secretary of Dongwa Village, led the police to raid his home afterwards. They confiscated his computer, cell phone, Falun Gong books, hats, clothing, and other valuables.
After 32 days of detention at the Pinggu District Detention Center, Mr. Lu was released in March 2024, only to be taken back into custody on June 5, 2024. His home was raided again and he was taken to the same detention center.
Mr. Lu’s family wasn’t given updates of his case status, including his indictment or trial. They were shocked to receive a copy of his verdict from the Pinggu District Court in the mail recently. The ruling bore the signatures of presiding judge Sun Guoli, judges Xu Fengrong and Zhang Guorong, clerk Yao Linna, Liu Yunxi (assistant to judges), and prosecutor Tai Guiyan. It also stated that lawyer Ma Jinbao from the Shiyu Law Firm was appointed to enter a guilty plea for Mr. Lu in the trial.
Since Mr. Lu was already detained for 32 days following his February arrest, the verdict stated that he has one year and nine months to serve since his June 2024 arrest, with his term ending on March 4, 2026.
