(Minghui.org) Ms. Luo Xizhen, of Tonghua City, Jilin Province, recently started a hunger strike to protest her arbitrary detention for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Luo, a 63-year-old home aide, was at her employer’s home on March 1, 2024, when officers from the Tuanjie Police Station broke in and arrested her. The police then raided her home and confiscated many of her personal belongings. Another four Falun Gong practitioners, including Qu Xiaofei, Liu Xiaoyan, Sun Jingna and Xu Deming, were also arrested that same day. All five are detained at the Tonghua City Detention Center and their arrests were approved around April 20, 2024. An insider revealed that the Liuhe County Court has held a secret joint hearing of their cases, but details about the hearing or their current situation aren’t clear.
Ms. Luo began to practice Falun Gong in 1997. Her many ailments, including a kidney condition and gynecological diseases, soon disappeared. She lived by Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and peacefully resolved her family conflicts.
After the persecution began two years later, Ms. Luo was repeatedly arrested and detained. She was arrested at the end of 2002 and detained at the Ji’an City Detention Center for over three months. She was given a two-year term at the Heizuizi Women’s Forced Labor Camp in March 2003. She was subjected to beatings, electric shock torture, forced labor and other abuses.
Ms. Luo was arrested again on April 3, 2007 and sentenced to three years by the Ji’an City Court in September 2007. She was given a second prison sentence of three years and three months following another arrest on June 26, 2014 for distributing Falun Gong materials. She served time in the Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
