Additional Persecution News from China – March 27, 2023 (12 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 13 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Ma Yuzhen Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Ms. Ma Yuzhen was reported to the police for posting a sticker which had the words: “Falun Dafa is good”, and was arrested in mid-September 2022. Her home was ransacked. She was later sentenced to three years in prison. She was sent to the Chaoyang City Women’s Detention Center. 

2. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Sun Xuebing and His Wife Ms. Wang Min Sentenced to Prison

Mr. Sun Xuebing was sentenced to two years in prison. His wife Ms. Wang Min was sentenced to one year and ten months in prison.

3. [Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Kou Juying Arrested

Ms. Kou Juying, 72, lives in Guangxinyuan Community, Shilipu Sub-district. She was arrested on February 21, 2023 and was placed under official arrest on March 7, 2023. She is currently held in the Xi’an City Detention Center. 

Ms. Kou was arrested by officers from the Sanqiao Police Station, Xinjiamiao Police Station and the Xi’an City Police Department on the afternoon of August 18, 2022. The police ransacked her home and confiscated a desktop computer, a laptop, printer, her Falun Gong books, and other items. She was denied admission due to high blood pressure and was released on bail pending trial on August 20, 2022.

4. [Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhang Chunmei Sentenced to Eight Months in Prison

Ms. Zhang Chunmei from the Hengshan District was arrested on July 27, 2022. She was later sentenced to eight months in prison and fined 2000 yuan by the Jidong County Court. Ms. Zhang was released on March 26, 2023.

5. [Mengyin County, Shandong Province] Mr. Ji Yongcheng Detained in Prison

Mr. Ji Yongcheng, 53, lives in Xidoushan Village, Taoxu Town, Mengyin County. He was arrested by officers from the Xijiao Police Station on September 26, 2020 for distributing booklets which had information about Falun Gong. He was later released on bail pending trial and was placed under residential surveillance. 

Mr. Ji was arrested by officers from the Fei County and Mengyin County on February 15, 2022 and was detained in the Hedong District Detention Center. He was sentenced to one year in prison by the Lanshan District Court in Linxi City in September 2022. It was recently learned that he was transferred to the Shandong Province Men’s Prison.

6. [Chongqing] Ms. Zhang Chengqiong Harassed

Ms. Zhang Chengqiong, 80, was arrested on August 7, 2021 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked. She was fined 3000 yuan and was released on bail pending trial for two months. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to three years in prison with a four-year probation and was fined 10,000 yuan on September 13, 2022. 

Ms. Zhang is now under residential surveillance. She must go to the Judiciary Office once a week. Her son must report her situation via video every day. 

7. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Deng Jiaxing Harassed

Deng Jiaxing was reported to police by a taxi driver for talking about Falun Gong on the morning of March 22, 2023 and was arrested at home by officers from the Houzaimen Police Station that evening. The police confiscated some Falun Gong materials. Deng was interrogated in the police station and was released around midnight. 

8. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] The Case Against Ms. Jiang Yongqin Submitted to the Court

Ms. Jiang Yongqin was arrested in June 2022 and was sent to the Jilin City Detention Center. Her case is now in the court. Her lawyer encountered resistance when he tried to meet her and review the case files.

9. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Li Cuiling Detained

Ms. Li Cuiling was arrested and sent to the Jilin City Detention Center. The police ransacked her home and confiscated two cell phones, a tablet, and 28,000 yuan in cash.

Ms. Li was deprived of sleep while she was in the detention center. Her lawyer went to the detention center to meet her via video on March 20, 2023. A face-to-face meeting was scheduled the next day. However, when the lawyer went there he was not allowed to meet her. 

10. [Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Yang Arrested

Practitioner Yang was arrested by officers from the Qingyuan Railway Police Station on March 25, 2023 when Yang was about to take a train.

11. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Niu Xiaona Faces Arrest

Ms. Niu Xiaona, disabled, will be taken to a detention center by railway police officers at 9 a.m. on March 28, 2023.

12. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Li Shutao Not Allowed to Teach

Mr. Li Shutao is a teacher in the Center Elementary School of Wanlong Township, Shuangcheng District. Because he was reported to the school authorities by a pupil’s parent on March 22, 2023, he is no longer allowed to teach.
