Additional Persecution News from China – February 16, 2023 (10 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 6 provinces, where at least 17 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

10. [Jingmen City, Hubei Province] Mr. Liu Deyu Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

1. [Zibo City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhao Mei Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Zhao Mei was arrested on June 15, 2022, and no one has heard from her since then. It was recently learned that Ms. Zhao was sentenced to four years in prison and she may have been taken to prison.

2. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Ms. Wang Fenglan Taken to Detention Center

Ms. Wang Fenglan from Maguanying Village, Caohe Town, Xushui District, was taken to the Xushui District Detention Center on February 14, 2023. Further information is pending.

3. [Tianjin] Ms. Wang Shuhui Arrested

Ms. Wang Shuhui, about 50, from Huangzhuang Sub-district, Wuqing District, was reported to the police while clarifying the facts about Falun Gong and the persecution on February 2, 2023. She was arrested by officers from the Huangzhuang Police Station. She is being held in the Wuqing District Detention Center.

4. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhao Guokun Harassed

Ms. Zhao Guokun received a phone call from the Minzhu Police Station, in Changyi District, on February 6, 2023. The caller asked Ms. Zhao to go to the police station on the morning of February 9, and the officers would then take her to the procuratorate.

Ms. Zhao was held in custody for a month last year, and has since been released on bail.

5. [Cangzhou City, Hebei Province] Several Practitioners Harassed

Prior to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which opened in Beijing on October 16, 2022, officers from the Wangsi Town Police Station in Nanpi County harassed numerous Falun Gong practitioners.

The following practitioners were harassed: Li Zhi’e and Liu Shulan from Gaozhuangzi Village; Li Yuhua, Lu Yurong, Gao Jianwen, and Liu Shuyan from Wenwubo Village; Zhang Xiuying from Chenguantun Village.

6. [Beijing] Case Against Ms. Miao Bojun Brought to Court

Ms. Miao Bojun from Tongzhou District was arrested by officers from the Zhangjiawan Police Station in August 2022. She was sent to the Tongzhou District Detention Center.

A few days ago, it was reported that the authorities decided to sentence her to three and a half years in prison on the grounds that she was sent to a forced labor camp for promoting Falun Gong. Her case was brought to the Tongzhou District Court.

7. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Liu Xiangju Arrested

Ms. Liu Xiangju from the Liaozhong District returned home on December 8, 2022, after spending six years in prison.

Ms. Liu and her husband went to their son’s home in early February. When they went to the Shenyang North Station to return to their home in the Liaozhong District, the train station police checked Ms. Liu’s ID card and identified her as a Falun Gong practitioner. They forcibly searched her pockets and found paper bills with information about Falun Gong written on them.

They took her into custody and drove her husband, who was suffering from a stroke and had difficulty moving around, to their home in Liaozhong District. The officers ransacked the place and confiscated Falun Gong books. It was reported that Ms. Liu taken Fushun City and detained.

8. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Liu Pintong Arrested

Ms. Liu Pintong was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong on the morning of February 3, 2023. She was arrested by officers from the Jiangjun Police Station and taken to the Nangou Detention Center that day.

On February 8, Shuncheng District Police Department called her family and told them to go there. Then Jiao Chen and two other officers from the police department asked his family members to lead them to their home. The three officers ransacked the place.

On February 14, his family found someone who could reach Jiao Chen. Jiao said that in May 2022, Ms. Liu distributed DVDs and told people about Falun Gong, and that she faced a three to five year prison term.

9. [Foshan City, Guangdong Province] Ms. He Xiaohua and Ms. Shu Yuying Arrested

Ms. He Xiaohua and Ms. Shu Yuying from Chancheng District were arrested by the police or 610 Office personal on January 19, 2023, for talking to people about Falun Gong. Ms. Shu was released on February 5.

Ms. He was placed in criminal detention, and her family was notified.

10. [Jingmen City, Hubei Province] Mr. Liu Deyu Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

Mr. Liu Deyu was sentenced to four years in prison by the Dongbao District Court. The sentence would start on July 10, 2022 and end on July 9, 2026. He was also fined 5,000 yuan.

Mr. Liu was previously sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison or to forced labor. His term was never reduced, not by a single day, because he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong.

On January 12, 2000, he was subjected to three years of forced labor, and he returned home after the three year term ended.On February 2, 2010, he was sentenced to four years in prison, and he returned home after the four year term ended.On May 7, 2018, he was sentenced to five years in prison and fined 5,000 yuan, he and returned home after the five year term ended.

In addition, Mr. Liu was arrested and taken to the Tangxunhu Brainwashing Center in Wuhan City for forced brainwashing. He slammed his head against the wall in protest. The officials released Mr. Liu after failing to brainwash him.
