(Minghui.org) A Hefei City, Anhui Province resident stood trial on February 9, 2023 for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Ms. Xu Ping testified how the police fabricated evidence against her.
Ms. Xu, 70, a retired employee of a railroad construction company affiliated with China Railway Engineering Corporation, was arrested at home on November 11, 2020. As the police raid induced high blood pressure and a severe heart condition in her, she was released on bail on the same day.
The police submitted Ms. Xu’s case to the Shushan District Procuratorate on May 11, 2021. Prosecutor Li Hui indicted her on November 2, 2021 and moved her case to the Shushan District Court.
Ms. Xu’s lawyer pointed out during her hearing that no law has ever criminalized Falun Gong or labeled it as a cult in China, and that the Chinese publication bureau lifted the ban on Falun Gong books. As such, she should never have been charged for practicing her faith or possessing materials about it.
Ms. Xu testified in her own defense, maintaining that she didn’t violate any laws by practicing Falun Gong, and that the police trespassed in her private home, which terrified her and caused her to suffer high blood pressure and a heart condition.
She added that officer Wang Tao forced her to sign a piece of blank paper, and that he and other officers then copied her signature to fabricated evidence against her. They also fabricated two witness accounts against her. She applied to the court on December 11, 2022 to examine the faked evidence, but the judge never responded to her. The prosecutor remained silent as she talked about the faked evidence during the hearing.
Ms. Xu urged the judge to uphold justice and acquit her. The judge has yet to issue a ruling for her case at the time of this writing.
