(Minghui.org) A grandmother in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, was hospitalized in early March 2023, after developing severe medical conditions while being detained for her faith in Falun Gong.
According to the police officer who called Ms. Tong Jinping’s family a few days ago, she developed diabetes and high blood pressure. Part of her body has festered due to complications of the diabetes. Guards in the police hospital are monitoring her.
Ms. Tong’s family asked to visit her in person, but their request was denied. They and Ms. Tong’s lawyer went to see the presiding judge, who denied their request to release her on bail. Her family is now very worried about her.
Ms. Tong was arrested at around 5 a.m. on June 16, 2022. Her 15-year-old granddaughter and 12-year-old grandson, who were living with her because their parents were working out of town, were terrified. Both children were left at home by themselves following Ms. Tong’s arrest, before their father entrusted a neighbor to help care for them.
Ms. Tong’s sister, Ms. Tong Yinping, and another practitioner, Mr. Li Yilong, were also arrested on the same day. While Ms. Tong Yinping and Mr. Li were released on bail in the evening, Ms. Tong Jinpiing was taken to the Jiujiang City Detention Center. Xiong Xiaoxiong, the director of the Ruichang City Domestic Security Office, interrogated Ms. Tong several times.
Ms. Tong was tried in the Jiujiang City Intermediate Court on January 13, 2023. Her lawyer entered a not-guilty plea for her. She appeared to be healthy during the video hearing. It’s not clear what caused her to develop diabetes and high blood pressure in just two months.
Officer Xiong harassed Mr. Li in early March and threatened to search his home in a few days.
