(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhou Huajian, a 73-year-old Maoming City, Guangdong Province resident, has been detained for three years, after being arrested in March 2020 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Although the local court put Mr. Zhou’s case on hold due to the pandemic, the authorities still refused to release him. According to his lawyer who visited him at the Maoming City No.1 Detention Center on February 23, 2023, Mr. Zhou has been experiencing frequent dizziness in recent months. It’s not clear whether his condition was caused by torture in custody or whether the detention center had provided any treatment to him.
Mr. Zhou’s lawyer said when he went to the detention center that morning, the check-in system had a message that he was no longer Mr. Zhou’s lawyer. The message said he should contact the Maonan District Court for any questions.
The detention center authorities went through the lawyer’s paperwork, but didn’t find anything wrong with it. They then called the court for clarification. After confirming that the court didn’t issue any notice to deny the lawyer from visiting Mr. Zhou, the guards arranged the lawyer to meet with him.
