(Minghui.org) The family of Ms. Sun Ping was recently informed that their loved one was sentenced to five years for her faith in Falun Gong. She is considering filing an appeal.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Sun, of Changchun City, Jilin Province, was arrested at home at 6 a.m. on February 23, 2022. Her computer, printer, and Falun Gong books were confiscated. The police first held her in the police station, then transferred her to the Changchun City No. 4 Detention Center on February 28.

Ms. Sun’s family was kept in the dark regarding her case status. Only after the Chaoyang District Court sentenced her were they informed of the verdict.

Ms. Sun, a 67-year-old retired factory worker, used to suffer from hyperthyroidism, colitis, and heart disease. All of the diseases disappeared after she took up Falun Gong. She also became a more considerate person, living by Falun Gong’s principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.”

She has been repeatedly arrested and incarcerated since 1999 because she did not renounce her faith in the face of the persecution. Several of the arrests took place in front of her teenage daughter, who was so terrified that she didn’t dare to sleep if she was home alone. The police also threatened Ms. Sun with her daughter’s education and future career in an attempt to make her give up Falun Gong. The tight surveillance of their home caused many of their family members and friends to distance themselves from them.

Ms. Sun’s first arrest was in late July 1999. She was held at a police station for a day. Many of her personal belongings, including her photos, were confiscated. Her other arrest was in late March 2000 when she was held at the Daguang Detention Center for ten days. The guards forcibly took her photos and forced her to sit on a small stool for long hours without moving.
