(Minghui.org) Ever since Sui Chunlong took office in early 2022 as the deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) in Xiaogan City, Hubei Province, he has allocated more funding to local brainwashing centers to target Falun Gong practitioners.
Dozens of practitioners in the nearby cities and counties under the jurisdiction of Xiaogan, including Yingcheng City, Anlu City, Xiaochang County, Yunmeng County, and Hanchuan County, have been arrested and held in the brainwashing centers. In some regions, the authorities arrested the practitioners based on a quota.
The 610 Office, an extra-legal, Gestapo-style agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong, is in charge of the operation of the brainwashing centers. Many PLAC secretaries or deputy secretaries serve as directors of the 610 offices themselves.
The three practitioners below were recently persecuted in Anlu City.
Mr. Yan Ji, a former police officer in his 50s, was arrested on May 24, 2022, for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was held in the Changsong Brainwashing Center in Bofan Town. Shortly after his release on August 24, he was forced to retire early. Prior to this incident, he was also taken to a brainwashing center in October 2002 for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Song Jinfeng, in her 80s, had her home ransacked on September 2. She was taken to the brainwashing center hosted by the village office the following day. It’s not clear if she is still detained.
Ms. Ran Xincui, a nurse at Puai Hospital, was recently ordered by her employer and the 610 Office to renounce Falun Gong. The authorities threatened to take her to a brainwashing center if she didn’t comply.
