The summer camp ran for seven weeks and offered many fun and unique classes. A total of 37 students enrolled. Some students had attended in previous years and some were new students.

Classes included studying the Fa, practicing the Falun Dafa exercises, public speaking, English reading, drama class, history, calligraphy, sketching, coloring, arts and crafts, cooking, planting, mathematics, introduction to computer science, singing and music appreciation. Students read aloud, both in English and Chinese, demonstrated their mathematical knowledge and the art of origami during the ceremony. Parents enjoyed the performances and were very pleased with the summer camp.

Ms. Hui, a Chinese teacher, said, “What most deeply impressed me was how quickly each child improved. Some came in not comprehending Chinese, but after two months they improved a lot. One child did not speak Chinese very much at home, and was lacking an environment for the language. But after two months of listening, speaking and writing Chinese at the camp, the child’s Chinese improved really fast.”

Ms. Liu, the calligraphy teacher, said, “The children are all very intelligent, and the content of the classes is very rich. The teachers worked really hard. The children changed a lot. Some of the children were not aware of the changes they were going through initially, and gradually took the initiative to do better. For example, if the teachers had just simply asked the children to make their own beds, the children might not listen. But through much coaching, the children gradually got into the habit of making their own beds, and they no longer needed the teachers to remind them.”

Ms. Zheng has been working at the Minghui School for three years and thinks it is a great way to help children in their cultivation.

“The summer camp provides young Dafa disciples with a cultivation environment. They can solidify their cultivation by comparing themselves against the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” she said. “Perhaps they might not remember every single detail at the summer camp, but in the long run they will benefit in cultivation and in life. A good cultivation environment is important for a child.”

Ms. Zheng saw that the children learned a lot during the camp. “Some children became able to wash their own hair, take showers, and became more polite with better table manners.”

Students send forth righteous thoughts and practice the exercises at the Minghui Summer Camp

Ms. You stated, “This group of children were quite mischievous in the beginning. They would be quiet and focused during group Fa study and practicing the exercises, and all of them could put their legs in double lotus. But when it was time to rest they would be really disruptive. I advised them according to Master’s Fa. Not only did they learn to endure, they also learned the relationship between the transformation of karma and virtue, and how one’s gong can increase. If they really could not calm down, I would let them hand copy Master’s lectures or practice the exercises.”

Ms. Luo, principal and founder of the New Jersey Minghui School, said, “I am happy to announce the successful conclusion of the 13th annual Minghui Summer Camp. Many young Dafa disciples have come and gone over the years. The Minghui Summer Camp displays the best of our traditional Chinese values in life, academics and moral values. We adhere to these traditional values to educate our next generation. Many parents agree with my views as we have seen many people who are not Falun Dafa practitioners sending their children to the Minghui Summer Camp.”

Ms. Luo continued, “Children are pampered nowadays and parents aren’t able to see the problems in their own children. Parents can immediately distinguish the gaps between their child and other children after the summer camp. For example, I am able to tell how each child is educated at home just by seeing their eating habits and etiquette. Children are taught proper table manners and will bring this etiquette home with them. For many years to come, children will still be able to remember these table manners.”
