A Good Neighbor

(Minghui.org) I live in a bungalow that was built more than 40 years ago. There are many bungalows in our residential area that are slated to be torn down. No one wants to invest in a house that will be torn down. So, my neighbors and I faced many difficulties with our homes. A major problem is that the water pipes freeze in winter.

Four years ago around the Chinese New Year, even the water pipes of some of the larger residential buildings in my area were frozen, and they were without water. In my neighborhood of one-story bungalows, except for my house, the neighbors’ water pipes were also frozen. 

This was not natural or normal. We burn coal to heat our houses, not like the apartment buildings that are heated by hot water pipes coming from a power plant. I work 16 hours a day, and rest the following day. So my house was heated every other day while my neighbors’ houses were heated every day.

Last winter was the coldest winter we experienced in recent years. The lowest temperature was minus 30 degrees. My neighbors kept the coal stoves on every day for heating, but their water pipes still froze. We use the same water system and live in the same type of house. I have lived there for over 10 years, but my water pipe has never frozen, even during the coldest winter last year.

As soon as I got home after work, my neighbors would come over to get water. I never got annoyed about that and even helped them with fetching water. My neighbors praised me for being such a good-natured Falun Dafa practitioner. 

An 84-year-old woman lives in a bungalow alone because she and her daughter-in-law were at odds. Her children would help her get water from my house when her pipe was frozen in the past. Last year, one of her children went abroad and another had to take care of an ailing in-law and couldn’t come over to help her. Since then, I have brought water to her house every other day during the winter. Her oldest son brought 5 kilograms of eggs to thank me. I declined the eggs. Her youngest daughter came over to thank me. She told me that I had done the work the old woman’s own children should do. And my elderly neighbor called me “her angel.”

Every time people thanked me, I would smile and say that we are all good neighbors. I tell them that my Master – Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa – taught me to be a good person who thinks of others’ needs before my own. I have clarified the truth about Dafa, and talked about the persecution to the 84-year-old neighbor, her children, and other neighbors. They all agreed to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its youth organizations. 

They should be grateful to our great Master. In this chaotic world, Master Li spreads Dafa, teaches people to cultivate, and helps them return to their original, true selves.
