Hebei Man’s Family Files Complaints against Prosecutor Involved in His Wrongful Eight-year Sentence

(Minghui.org) The family of a Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province resident recently filed multiple complaints against Cheng Xing, a prosecutor of Xuanhua District Procuratorate, who was involved in the eight-year prison sentence against their loved one for his faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Yang Jianlu’s ordeal dated back to 2019, when a provincial level Party official visited Zhangjiakou and saw a Falun Gong banner on the street near his home. The police interrogated Mr. Yang twice and he denied that it was him who put up the banner. 

On December 4, 2019, without any evidence, the police arrested Mr. Yang and ransacked his home. They soon submitted his case to the Xuanhua District Procuratorate.

Mr. Yang’s family and lawyer repeatedly contacted prosecutor Cheng Xing, urging him to dismiss his case. They said that Mr. Yang enjoyed good health and quit many bad habits after taking up Falun Gong. They also submitted petitions signed by local villagers, testifying to Mr. Yang’s character. Cheng never responded to them and indicted Mr. Yang without any evidence of Mr. Yang’s alleged violation of law. 

During Mr. Yang’s court hearing on September 4, 2020, prosecutor Cheng suddenly left the court without providing any explanation, forcing the judge to adjourn the session. Without having another hearing, the judge announced to sentence Mr. Yang to eight years on March 16, 2021. He was taken to the Tangshan City Prison on July 19, 2021. 

Mr. Yang’s family recently filed complaints against Cheng with the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Ministry of Public Security and Supervisory Committee. All of the agencies indicated that they had received the complaint, but they have yet to respond to the family whether they would initiate the investigation against Cheng.
