(Minghui.org) Insomnia is prevalent in modern society due to a variety of causes: pressure at work, the burdens of life, or mental illness. Long-term insomnia can make people irritable and unable to concentrate, as well as cause memory loss, and impaired immunity, which can bring about various diseases.

Dr. Huang Shiwei, director of the urology department of the Yunlin Branch of National Taiwan University Hospital, has practiced medicine for 21 years. He was troubled by insomnia when he was younger, and it was difficult for him to fall back to sleep when he woke up in the middle of the night.

“I tried sleeping pills, consulted psychiatrist colleagues, and even checked out Chinese Medicine, but my insomnia continued. A friend of ours introduced us to Falun Dafa. She had also suffered with severe insomnia but recovered completely,” Dr. Huang recalled.

“I remember that night I went home and read Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Dafa. After three lectures, I fell asleep! I finished the book in three days, and I knew this was what I had been searching for for a long time. After I began to cultivate, not only did my insomnia go away, I also learned to relax and follow the course of nature. By following the principles of Dafa, I became more responsible and more patient with my patients.”

Cultivation also allowed Dr. Huang to broaden his horizons and realize the limitations of empirical science. “People don’t believe what they think is not in line with science, but when you experience it firsthand, you find out that those are real.”

Acute Insomnia Relieved by Practicing Dafa

Mr. Xu Wenhai

Mr. Xu Wenhai was born in a farmhouse in Taoyuan, Taiwan. He passed the national special exam and was assigned to the General Administration of the Ministry of Finance as an English secretary.

Mr. Xu suffered from insomnia for many years. Every night, the distressing events he had to deal with during the day weighed on his mind like a mountain, and he tossed and turned and couldn’t sleep. Often, just before dawn, when he was totally exhausted, he would pass out—but not for long. He had to take the hour-long bus ride to get to work.

“My mind would not shut down. Everything, from national affairs to trivial matters, and even things that had nothing to do with me kept running through my head, and sleeping pills had no effect. My temples hurt, I was always tense, and my heart felt heavy, as if someone was pressing on it.

“Even though I was exhausted, I could not fall asleep on the bus and I couldn’t take a nap during my lunch break. I was caught in a vicious cycle: The more tired I was, the less likely I was able to relax and rest.”

Mr. Xu suffered this way for many years. Every day he felt he might not able to make it to the next. Long-term insomnia left him exhausted mentally and physically, and he was eager to seek relief. When he heard about Falun Dafa, he immediately started practicing.

“When I first began practicing, I noticed that I was able to fall asleep sooner. When I woke up in the morning, I was so surprised that I had been able to sleep all night and sleep so well! It is such an amazing feeling to be able to sleep on my own.” He now sleeps well, his appetite is back, and he is full of energy.

After Reading the Falun Dafa Book, No More Insomnia

Mr. Tang Zhiheng was once a successful entrepreneur in Guangdong Province, China. He spent three years bringing a factory back to life, doubling its performance year after year. 

At the end of 1996, Tang Zhiheng was admitted to a university in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province and majored in chemical engineering. Stress took a real toll on his health. He had serious insomnia, daily headaches, stomach problems, and depression.

On his way home after a night class, he saw a group of people meditating. He was surprised to see them. “The entire society is so impatient and impulsive—how could this group of people settle down and meditate? I was curious.” He borrowed a copy of Zhuan Falun and began to read it. 

It took him a month to finish it the first time. After that, he no longer had insomnia, and his health improved. 

“I felt that this was what I had been searching for for a long time. I felt I’d spent the first half of my life confused, without a guide for how to live.

“Dafa renewed my life and guides me with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and the true meaning of life, that is, to return to one’s original self.”

Agonizing Insomnia Went Away after Cultivating Dafa

Optometrist Ms. Yang Lonn says that practicing Falun Dafa gave her a new perspective on life.

Ms. Yang Lonn, an optometrist with 21 years of experience, lives in the suburbs of Chicago. With the birth of her twin sons in 2010, she went through a long period of painful low points. She suffered from severe insomnia. No matter how tired she was, she could not sleep. She was exhausted and became irritable. She had constant clashes with her family. 

Despite having a high-paying job and living in an upscale neighborhood, all she could feel was physical pain, mental anguish, and the chaos of life. “Everything became meaningless,” she says. “I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown and asked myself, ‘Do I want this kind of life? What do I want to change? What can I change?’”

She remembered Falun Gong, which her parents had introduced to her many times. She began reading Zhuan Falun. Ms. Yang noticed the changes right away. Her energy was back and her insomnia went away. She is able to sleep naturally without struggling. When her sons woke her up at night, she was able to be more patient and lovingly take care of them.

Ms. Yang expressed her gratitude to Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa: “Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance made me understand that when we always think only about ourselves, we will lack tolerance and become hard to deal with. And the more tolerant we are, the more noble and pure our heart is. Falun Dafa has made me understand that by letting go of myself, I can accept difficulties with a calm mindset and resolve things better.”

The Little Girl No Longer Struggles to Sleep

“I can’t sleep, I can’t sleep!” Ten-year-old Melva from Sweden always tossed and turned for hours before falling asleep, sometimes sitting up in the middle of the night, which concerned her mother Eva Suggfors. The later the girl went to bed, the more her mother worried. 

Fortunately, Eva and her husband had been practicing Falun Dafa for many years. Eva said, “One day when my husband and I were doing the exercises in the park, Melva joined us. When we got home, Melva went to bed and fell to sleep! I realized that was because she did the exercises with us!”

Eva and her daughter now meditate before she goes to sleep. Her daughter has been sleeping very well ever since. 

The Secret to Curing Her Insomnia

Ms. Li is in her 70s. In November 2021, she came across a Falun Gong practitioner who clarified the truth about the persecution to her and taught her how to recite “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” 

She felt a warm current moving inside her body while reciting the phrases and was quite surprised. When she woke up the next morning, she realized that she’d slept all night long. It was the first time in over a decade that she’d been able to sleep without a struggle. It was so amazing that she decided to look into Falun Dafa and soon became a practitioner.

“My Insomnia Is Gone and My Health Improved”

Mr. Peng Yongfeng, a former lawyer in China, used to have severe insomnia due to the pressures of work and life. During those sleepless nights, he kept asking himself, “What do people live for? What is the meaning of life?”

When he couldn’t sleep at night, he used a calligraphy brush to copy a Buddhist scripture so that he would not be so depressed.

When he began to cultivate Falun Dafa, Mr. Peng’s insomnia gradually went away. “When I listened to the lecture recordings initially, I would fall asleep. Later on, I discovered that if I want to sleep, I can fall asleep quickly, no matter what I am doing. Now I am able to fall asleep in less than five minutes!

“My health has completely recovered. I have not taken a single pill, gotten an injection, or taken any other forms of medication since then. This is something I never would have dared to imagine.”
