(Minghui.org) Even though Ms. Liu Hongxia’s lawyer requested a postponement of her trial due to her poor health, the judge heard her case on July 13, 2022, as scheduled, and sentenced her to four years for practicing Falun Gong. The 47-year-old woman was so weak and emaciated that she couldn’t even sit up and slumped in her chair during the entire proceedings.

Ms. Liu of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on October 28, 2021, when the police officer following her saw her putting up Falun Gong posters in residential buildings. She was admitted to Dalian City Detention Center.

She has been on a hunger strike since February 14 of this year to protest the persecution of her faith, which has been targeted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

When her lawyer went to visit her on February 28, he was told that she had been moved to a special ward in Xinhua Hospital, where inmate patients held in the Dalian City Detention Center or the local prison are taken. Hospital employees who work in other departments aren’t allowed to ask questions about this special ward.

In the hospital, Ms. Liu was once tied to a bed, force-fed, and injected with unknown drugs. She has been denied all visits, including by her lawyer and family.

During that time, the Ganjingzi District Procuratorate indicted her and moved her case to the Ganjingzi District Court.

Her family insisted on being allowed to visit her in June 2022, but they were turned down. They contacted the Dalian City Police Department on June 28 and asked why they couldn’t visit their loved one in the hospital. The detention center cited the pandemic as an excuse.

Ms. Liu was taken back to the detention center on July 7. Judge Guo Danhua informed her family that she was scheduled to be tried on July 13, but her family wouldn’t be allowed to attend. The judge emphasized that no one would be allowed to visit Ms. Liu before the trial. Her lawyer’s request to postpone the proceedings was also denied.

The judge tried Ms. Liu virtually on July 13. She remained silent the entire time. When her lawyer was finally given a pass to visit her after the trial, she couldn’t remember her hospital stay but did know that she was force-fed and given the injection. He is planning to appeal for her.
