(Minghui.org) A Maoming City, Guangdong Province, resident has been detained for two years for his faith in Falun Gong. His family recently filed complaints against the 19 perpetrators involved in his case, urging the authorities to drop his case and release him.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Lin Wu, 58, was ambushed by two people hiding in his apartment building when he returned from grocery shopping on August 14, 2020. Thinking that they were going to rob him, he struggled and attempted to escape. Those people made a phone call and three more people showed up. They held Mr. Lin to the floor and took away his home key. They then ransacked his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books and other personal belongings.
Despite the fact that Mr. Lin was found to have a severe heart condition, the police kept him in custody at Maoming City No. 1 Detention Center. Meanwhile, the authorities suspended most of his pension, reducing his 6,000 yuan monthly payment to 900 yuan, which was barely enough for his family to get by.
The Maonan District Procuratorate approved Mr. Lin’s arrest on September 18 and indicted him in early January 2021. His lawyer was not allowed to meet with him until December 1, 2021. The lawyer tried to urge prosecutor Yu Huadan to dismiss his case, but Yu refused to meet with him and said she had handed off the case to the Maonan District Court and was no longer in charge of it.
While Mr. Lin is still awaiting trial by the Maonan District Court, his family filed complaints in August 2022 against the 19 perpetrators responsible for his case. They demanded: 1) the perpetrators be held accountable; 2) the Maonan District Procuratorate withdraw the indictment against Mr. Lin; 3) the Maoming High-tech Development Zone Police Department dismiss Mr. Lin’s case; and 4) the Maonan District Court acquit Mr. Lin.
