(Minghui.org) With the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party coming up in November 2022, the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) in Wanyuan City, Sichuan Province launched a new round of brainwashing sessions targeting local Falun Gong practitioners.

In this campaign, two officers from different levels of the PLAC were paired up to work on each individual practitioner. The practitioner’s local street committee and some of his or her family members were also ordered to be present to assist in the brainwashing.

At least five elderly practitioners have been targeted between July 7 and 11, 2022, and three of them were briefly arrested.

Case 1: Ms. Song Ruxiang, Ms. Zhang Jiyu and Ms. Chen Zhangbi

Ms. Song Ruxiang, Ms. Zhang Jiyu and Ms. Chen Zhangbi were arrested and had their homes ransacked on July 7, 2022. While they were all released soon, Ms. Song and Ms. Zhang were targeted again days later.

Case 2: Mr. Wang Guoyuan and his wife, Ms. Liu Fangrun

About 8 officers from the PLAC and residential committee knocked on the door of Mr. Wang Guoyuan and his wife, Ms. Liu Fangrun on July 9. They attempted to videotape the couple, both in their 60s, and take them to the Wanyuan City Social Comprehensive Management Center (“the Center”) for brainwashing.

The couple strongly resisted. After a long standoff, one PLAC director said, “It’s getting late. You can go there tomorrow morning then.”

At 9 a.m. the next day, the residential committee staff members took the couple to the Center and held them in two separate rooms, where they couldn’t see or hear each other. One doctor came and measured their blood pressures.

One officer from the provincial PLAC and another one from the Wanyuan City PLAC were in the room to brainwash Mr. Wang. None of them revealed their names.

One of the two officers assigned to brainwash Ms. Liu was from the provincial office and the other was from the Dazhou City PLAC. As Ms. Liu repeatedly asked for their names, the latter revealed that she was Luo Jie and she confessed that she is on Minghui’s perpetrators’ list.

According to information collected by Minghui, Luo was a former member of the Dazhou City 610 Office. She also worked at the Longfengshanzhuang Brainwashing Center for many years and persecuted many practitioners.

Prior to the brainwashing, the PLAC officers forced the couple’s daughter, Ms. Wang Jing, who works in the city government, to come to the Center. They attempted to force her to try to persuade her parents to renounce Falun Gong. But she refused to comply.

The authorities also found Wang Mingying, who practiced Falun Gong before, but later gave up due to the persecution, to come and try to brainwash the couple. In the past few years, Wang has worked closely with the authorities in assisting them to target the practitioners. The couple both refused to listen to her.

After the attempt to pressure the couple failed, the PLAC officers allowed Ms. Wang to take her parents home around noon.

Case 3: Ms. Zhang Targeted Again

Ms. Zhang Jiyu, 76, who was one of the three practitioners mentioned in case 1, was taken to the Center by her son at 8 a.m. on July 11, after he was pressured by the Wanyuan City PLAC and Feng Sibin, Party Secretary and Director of the Taojiawan Residential Community.

Two male PLAC officers, one from Dazhou City and the other from Wanyuan City, as well as some residential committee staff members, were in the room to brainwash Ms. Zhang. They spent over three hours, trying to pressure her to renounce Falun Gong, but she remained firm. Around noon, the authorities forced her son to sign the renouncing statement for her and then forced her to fingerprint the document. She was then allowed to go home.

Case 4: Ms. Song Targeted Again

When 75-year-old Ms. Song Ruxiang, another practitioner mentioned in case 1, went out with her granddaughter Ms. Ran Yue for grocery shopping at 7: 20 a.m. on July 11, they were arrested by four men, led by Feng Sibin of the residential committee.

Feng took Ms. Song and her granddaughter in his own car to the Center and handed them to the Dazhou City PLAC officials at around 9 a.m.

A man and a woman sat with Ms. Song at a desk. A male doctor came. He asked if Ms. Song had any history of mental illness. She said she did not. Then he measured her blood pressure and said it was too high.

The male PLAC official was around 50 years old. He said his last name was Xu and he used to be a lawyer. A search of the PLAC’s official website showed that this person is Xu Yongjun, who recently joined the Wanyuan City PLAC. He is also the director of Wanyuan City 610 Office.

Xu started his career as a lawyer, but he later moved into politics and served as the township head, the township Party committee secretary, and the chairman of the township people’s congress. He began to work for the 610 Office and PLAC in recent years.

Although the woman didn’t introduce herself, Ms. Song later confirmed that she was Luo Jie, the same person who tried to brainwash Ms. Liu.

Both Xu and Luo demanded to know when Ms. Song started to practice Falun Gong, if she did it alone or with a group, when she did the exercises every day, who was the coordinator, how she communicated with them, and if she had any political motives in practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Song answered some basic questions but refused to reveal information about other practitioners.

After a while, Xu took out a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong. He said the book teaches people to tell the truth and asked why Ms. Song was not following the teachings to tell the truth when she said she didn’t do the exercises at a fixed time. “I know that you all do the exercises at the same time, around 3 a.m. every day. You didn’t tell me the truth.”

Seeing that Ms. Song remained unmoved by the intimidation, Xu began to smear Falun Gong and attack its founder. As he was talking, he suddenly began to cough non-stop. During the pause, Ms. Song’s granddaughter came into the room. Luo wrote something on a piece of paper and told Ms. Song to sign it. When she refused, Luo forced her granddaughter to sign it and then forced Ms. Song to press her fingerprint on it.

Luo threatened Ms. Song, “I heard that they didn’t have you sign the paperwork last time at the police station. If it were not for your advanced age, I would detain you for at least seven days.”

Ms. Song went home with her granddaughter at around 11 a.m.
