(Minghui.org) Seven women in Linghai City, Liaoning Province, including four in their 70s and 80s, were tried by the Linghai City Court on July 13, 2022, for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The judge hasn’t announced the verdicts at the time of writing.
A group of officers from the Taihe District Domestic Security Office broke into 70-year-old Ms. Kang Guiyun’s home at around 9 a.m. on November 27, 2021, and ransacked her place.
Before the police left, Ms. Zhang Shuyuan, 81, came to visit. After arresting Ms. Zhang, the police decided to stay at Ms. Kang’s home. Throughout the day, they arrested another nine practitioners who came to visit Ms. Kang, including Ms. Li Weixin, 84, Ms. Wang, 80, Ms. Liu Baolian, 81, Ms. Li Shufang, 80, Ms. Chen Wenxue, 77, Ms. Zhang Yingling, 61, Ms. Liu Yurong, 60, Ms. Jin Xiaomei, 52, and Ms. Zhang Suqin.
The eleven practitioners were brought to three police stations for interrogation overnight. Ms. Li Weixin and Ms. Wang were released hours later and cleared of prosecution. The other nine practitioners were transferred to the Jinzhou City Detention Center around early morning.
Ms. Kang, Ms. Liu Baolian, Ms. Zhang Suqin, and Ms. Zhang Shuyuan were later released on bail. And the other five practitioners remained detained. The police submitted the case of the five practitioners together with Ms. Kang and Ms. Liu Baolian to the Linghai City Procuratorate on December 16, 2021.
Due to insufficient evidence, the prosecutor returned the cases between February 18 and March 16, 2022. The police submitted their cases again on April 11.
The Linghai City Court scheduled a hearing of the cases against seven practitioners on July 13. Ms. Kang and Ms. Liu Baolian attended the session in person at the court, while the other five practitioners connected through a virtual conference at the detention center.
Ms. Jin’s persecution has left her family members in deep distress. After the onset of the persecution, both she and her husband were fired by their workplace for practicing Falun Gong. Her husband later died in a car accident. She raised their son by herself and supported him to go to college. Now her parents in their 90s are left without care.
