Practitioners were invited to participate in the Huntington Beach July 4th Parade.
Known as the biggest Fourth of July Parade west of the Mississippi, the 2.5-mile parade at Huntington Beach always attracts city officials, veterans, community organizations, marching bands, and features many interesting floats. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the 118th parade this year is again part of the four-day celebration that consists of various activities.
The sky was overcast and cloudy, but when the Falun Dafa waist drum group, fairy ladies, exercise demonstration team, and flag groups arrived at the parade’s starting point, the sun came out. As their melodious music began, spectators applauded and many people took photos or videos of their performances as they walked by.

“This is the largest participant of the parade, always the most colorful. They are all followers of Falun Dafa, which is also known as Falun Gong,” explained one television host from ABC7, “Falun Dafa is a gentle exercise, a meditation practice emphasizing Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. It is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. These waist drums have 2,000 years of history in China.”
Another host added, “Falun Dafa is practiced by over 100 million people in more than 100 countries around the world. Here in California, there are weekly exercise sites and neighborhood workshops. Everyone is welcome to join and learn the exercise. It’s really beautiful to watch.”
Laura, one of the spectators, gave Falun Dafa practitioners a thumbs-up and exclaimed, “They seem to be humble and energetic. I really like them!”
